    Arrival in Martinique

    After landing, you'll pick up your rental car and drive south to Sainte-Luce for a week-long base in a family-friendly hotel right near the beach. Your local office staff can help point you toward good spots around the island and answer questions about what to do.

    Sainte-Luce

    From Sainte-Luce, you'll spend the day checking out the southern beaches of Martinique. Stop by your local office for route recommendations, then try kayaking, take a boat tour, go snorkeling, or see if you can spot dolphins in the water.

    Sainte-Luce

    A boat tour takes you out on the water today to see Martinique's beaches and nature from a different angle. You'll get a nice perspective of the island's coastline from the water instead of from shore.

    Sainte-Luce

    You'll head north to the Caravelle Peninsula, which combines a nature reserve and national park in one area. The marked hiking trails wind through the vegetation and give you a real sense of the natural landscape up there.

  6. Day 6

    Sainte-Luce

    More time at the peninsula reserve means more chances to hike and get views of the surrounding area. Walking through the unspoiled nature here is really worth doing if you get the chance, and there's plenty of ground to cover.

    Sainte-Luce

    Martinique to Guadeloupe

    Return your rental car at the airport, then catch a short flight to Guadeloupe. From there, drive about 45 minutes to your beachfront hotel in Bas-Vent. The hotel has complimentary non-motorized water sports available for guests.

    Bas-Vent, Basse-Terre

  12. Day 12

    Basse-Terre to Gosier, Grande-Terre

    Drive to the other half of Guadeloupe, Grande-Terre, which is flatter and covered with sugar cane fields. You'll pass rum distilleries and colonial town centers along the way. Your new hotel sits near Saint-Gosier with shops and restaurants within reach.

    I saw the highlights of northern Chile and Patagonia in a short space of time. I knew there would be a lot of walking and driving, but it made me very tired to change places almost every day by plane or bus. However, I would book the trip again because everything was very well organized and the most important and beautiful highlights were included.
