Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Casablanca to Rabat

    You'll arrive in Casablanca and get picked up by your private driver for the transfer to Rabat. After checking into your accommodation, the rest of the day is yours to settle in or walk around the neighborhood if you feel like it. At some point, make sure you see Hassan Tower and head over to Chellah, an archaeological site that's got layers of history going back through Phoenician times and beyond.

  2. Day 2

    Rabat to Asilah

    This morning you'll travel along the Atlantic Coast, stopping at ancient Roman and Spanish colonial sites like Lixus and Larache. Check out the archaeology museum and explore a ruined fortress, then make a detour to the Msoura standing stones where you'll see 167 monoliths. After that, head to Asilah, a relaxed artists' colony with 15th-century Portuguese architecture, nice beaches, and street art on the walls. You'll have lunch and dinner somewhere in the area.

  3. Day 3

    Asilah to Tangier

    You'll follow the Atlantic Coast with wide sandy beaches stretching out, making your way to Cap Spartel at Africa's northwestern tip. Stop at Tahaddart Beach and walk through Cap Spartel Park where there's a lighthouse, hiking trails, and ocean views. Later, visit the Caves of Hercules with their historical significance and check out Achakkar Beach nearby, which is protected. Then continue on to Tangier for the evening.

  4. Day 4

    Tangier

    Start the day exploring Tangier's medina with traditional living and souks throughout the narrow streets. Wander the alleyways of the old town before visiting the American Legation Museum, housed in a beautiful palace where the first U.S. diplomatic mission to Morocco started back in 1797. Head to Petit Socco square in the city center and then walk up to the old kasbah for Mediterranean views. The Kasbah Museum of Mediterranean Cultures is there too if you want to go inside.

  5. Day 5

    Tangier to Chefchaouen

    After breakfast, you'll travel toward Chefchaouen and pass through Tetouan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site between the Rif Mountains and Mediterranean. Then continue to Chefchaouen, where everything's painted in shades of blue. Check into your traditional riad and spend the rest of the day exploring at your own pace, watching life at Place Outa el-Hammam or discovering everyday scenes in the quieter alleyways.

    Chefchaouen

    Wake up early to watch the sunrise over the mountains from the Spanish Mosque, then wander the serene town before shops open at 10 am. Later, you'll do a guided hike in the Rif Mountains exploring cedar forests and seeing the Akchour Waterfall and God's Bridge natural rock formation. Get back to Chefchaouen in time to relax or explore the medina in the evening.

    Chefchaouen to Al Hoceima

    Rise early to photograph Chefchaouen's quiet streets, then travel north beneath limestone cliffs of Laou River Gorge watching for barbary apes. You'll reach coastal Oued Laou, continue to El Jebha port town for lunch, and explore Marsdar Bay crater beach with an optional 2-hour walk or chartered fishing boat. Pass by Al Hoceima National Park and arrive in whitewashed Al Hoceima, a blend of Spanish and Rifi Berber culture.

    Al Hoceima

    You'll explore Al Hoceima's old town perched on cliffs overlooking the bay, built by Spanish forces with a colonial feel throughout. Walk to a clifftop overlook to watch fishers in rowboats and see Spanish mountains on clear days. Stop for coffee with spectacular views, then head to the port for fresh fish lunch. Later, go to Sfiha Beach to swim with views of the Spanish island fortress, then return to Al Hoceima to relax.

    Al Hoceima to Fes

    Leave the Mediterranean coast and cross the Rif Mountains through spectacular Tizi Ouasli Pass into cooler High Eastern Rif landscape with pine forests and almond plantations. Stop in Aknoul to have coffee and see a monument to the Rifi revolt, then cross Tizi n'Taïda Pass through dense forests. Descend through barren valleys to Taza for lunch and exploration of its clifftop medina. Continue to Fes by highway, with an optional stop at hot springs in Sidi Harazem.

    After breakfast, meet your tour guide to explore Fes' UNESCO-protected medina with its narrow alleyways and donkey-width roads. You'll discover hidden corners and daily life while learning about historic madrasas, palaces, and meeting local artisans in tanneries and mosaic workshops. Return to your riad in the afternoon to relax, then head to a traditional hammam (bath) for history, massage, and rejuvenating treatments using locally-sourced products.

    Venture into Morocco's Guerrouane agricultural region just beyond Fes for a fun day trip focused on wine and local culture. You'll learn about regional crops, history, traditions, and flavors through a winery tour with private tastings. Explore Morocco's wine heritage from Roman times through Jewish communities to French settlers, sampling red blends, rosé, vin gris, and local brandies called mahia. After exploring the agricultural heartland, return to Fes to relax in your riad.

  12. Day 12

    Fes to Meknes and Volubilis

    Leave early for a day trip to Meknes, stopping at the Roman ruins of Volubilis first. Tour Meknes' smaller, less busy medina compared to Fes, visiting the impressive Bab Mansour gate, Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, and Royal Stables before lunch. Continue through Moulay Idriss to Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with Morocco's best-preserved Roman ruins including merchant homes, temples, and colorful mosaics. Explore the ruins, then head back to Fes for dinner.

    Fes to Marrakech

    Depart Fes traveling back through Rabat and Casablanca, stopping for lunch with incredibly fresh Atlantic fish prepared with traditional Moroccan flair. Continue across the plains to Marrakech, nicknamed the Red City for its vermillion-hued clay buildings. Check into your riad and spend the afternoon at a slower pace. Early evening, you'll experience Jemaa el-Fna square coming alive with musicians, performers, snake charmers, and food stalls. Taste from street vendors or enjoy a café overlooking the square.

Your guide shares history and stories of the medina, souks, and mellah (Jewish quarter) within the city's rose-pink walls. Have lunch at a local restaurant, then continue touring to see Bahia Palace, El Badi Palace, Majorelle Gardens, and Saadian Tombs.

    Our two guides Mohamed and Hassan were great. We had three great and unforgettable days with them in the desert. We were able to experience for ourselves what life in the desert is like. Loading camels in the morning, trekking through the desert, taking a lunch break in the shade, loading camels again, moving on, setting up camp for the night, cooking, making a fire, experiencing culture and history, learning Arabic and sleeping under the stars. An experience that will live long in the memory. The transportation from Marrakesh to M'hamid and back worked really well. During the trip, we saw and experienced the country in all its many facets. Aid Ben Haddou and Pottery Factory. An experience for the memory.

    It was very well organized. Angelo was a fun and fantastic leader of the group in Spain and Portugal. Amina was also a very nice and fun guide on our trip to Morrocco. We also booked the 3-day tour from Marrakech to Merzouga which was intense but a great experience. Simoh, was a great driver and always made sure that we were having fun and everything was OK. Even though I did not meet Khalil, the guy who organized the upgrade of rooms, accommodations, and transportation to the airport in Morrocco, he was in contact with us, making sure that everything was in order. We visited amazing places in Spain, Portugal, and Morrocco, and in general, the city tour guides were also very good. I recommend both tours.
