We usually use Mercedes Sprinter Mini Coaches with 19 seats (excluding the driver). The lay-out of the seating is usually rows of 2 seats and 1 seat with 4 seats at the rear. Air-conditioned, with large windows for enjoying the views. There is a jump seat next to the driver. Overhead storage for small carry-on backpack or handbag. No wifi on board. No assigned seats, passengers are encouraged to swap around! Small fridge onboard for medication. On a full tour day, we are generally on the road from 9am to 5pm with the coach stopping multiple times throughout the day. Stints of driving are usually no longer than 1.5 hours but may be longer if it's a big travel day. Generally, driving time will not add up to more than three or four hours per day.

I would recommend Backroads tours because they are a smaller group and spend a bit more time in smaller places. All of the accommodations were good to very good as were the breakfasts provided. There is some walking required during the tour however if you preferred then you could skip those activities. The communication from tourradar and backroads was outstanding. Elaine went out of her way to explain the history culture and added little known facts about each area visited. The accommodation was five star all the way.There was also enough time to do our own exploring and relaxing as the pace of the tour was just right. We can't speak more highly of the tour and would recommend it to everyone wanting an informative and relaxong holiday.Show more

I had booked, paid, confirmed Iberian Inspiration seven months out from the March 2019 tour date. I'd made my other travel arrangements (Many $$$$ from New Zealand) around the dates of the tour. Backroads suddenly cancelled the tour 8 weeks before the trip date. This left me with non-refundable flights & pre- and post tour accommodation, but no much anticipated 12 day tour. Because of the specific dates rebooking with another company was tricky & as it was more last minute, I am left considerably out of pocket. Would not book a shoulder season Backroads tour again!Show more

  Please can you let me know about luggage storage? I am assuming this is under the bus in a luggage compartment?

  All the main luggage such as suitcases/large bags will get stored under the coach in the compartments. Your 1 carry on bag can be stored on the coach in the overhead compartments or on your lap.
