Itinerary
- Day 1
Departure to Southeast Asia
Your flights depart from Frankfurt heading to Chiang Rai, so you'll be traveling internationally to Southeast Asia. The journey involves overnight travel, which means you'll arrive in Chiang Rai the following day. Pack essentials in your carry-on and get comfortable for the long haul, as you're looking at a significant time difference when you land in Thailand.
- Day 2
Chiang Rai
You'll arrive in Chiang Rai and check into your hotel after being welcomed by your guide. The day opens up for you to rest and settle in at your own pace. When evening rolls around, head to the night market to try different Thai dishes and get a feel for the local food scene. If you're up for it, the golden Clock Tower puts on a light show in the evening that's worth catching.

- Day 3
Chiang Rai
After breakfast, you'll visit three temples in the area: Wat Rong Khun, Wat Phra Kaew (an important historical temple built in traditional Lanna style), and Wat Rong Suea Ten with its distinctive blue color. Lunch happens at a local restaurant where you'll have Pad Thai and other Thai specialties. The afternoon is yours to walk around the old town or stay back at the hotel if you prefer to take it easy.

Chiang Rai to Houeixay to Pakbeng
You'll head to the Thai-Lao border and go through the entry process before moving on to Houeixay. Then you board a river boat and make a stop at a village along the way. Lunch is provided on board while you cruise down the Mekong. Later in the afternoon you'll reach Pakbeng and settle into your riverside lodge. The evening brings Laotian dinner with views out over the Mekong.

Pakbeng to Luang Prabang
This morning starts with either a market visit in Pakbeng or a relaxed breakfast depending on what you choose. The boat continues downstream, and you'll visit a traditional village where locals produce Lao-Lao (the local rice whiskey) and explore the Pak-Ou caves. You'll reach Luang Prabang by afternoon, walk through the city with your guide, and then have a drink by the Mekong. Your guide can recommend restaurants for dinner.

Luang Prabang
Get up early to watch the morning alms round where monks collect daily offerings, a core spiritual tradition here. After eating breakfast, you'll see Luang Prabang by tuk tuk, visit important temples, and have the option to receive a blessing from a monk. The former royal palace gets toured in the morning. Your afternoon is free to relax however you'd like.

Luang Prabang
You'll hike through sugar cane plantations and rice fields to reach Kuang Si waterfalls, where you can cool off in the natural rock pools. A picnic lunch is included during this excursion. Back in Luang Prabang by afternoon, you have free time to do your own thing, or you can book a visit to Living Land Farm, a traditional rice farm that costs around 63 dollars per person for groups of four.

Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng to Vientiane
You'll leave Luang Prabang and take an express train to Vang Vieng, which takes less than an hour. After a lunch break to relax, you'll travel through mountain scenery heading toward Vientiane. Once you reach the city, check into your hotel and then explore the capital in the evening. The Patuxai, which is Laos's version of the Arc de Triomphe, looks particularly nice at sunset.

Vientiane to Pakse to Bolaven Plateau
A morning tour covers Vientiane's main sights, and you'll stop at a café that your guide likes to try the famous Laotian coffee. The afternoon brings a flight to Pakse and then travel to the Bolaven Plateau. You'll settle into your accommodation for the night there.

Bolaven Plateau
You'll explore the Bolaven Plateau and see Tad Fane waterfall, which is really impressive. At a coffee plantation, learn how coffee grows there and do a tasting. After a picnic lunch surrounded by nature, you visit Wat Phou, a UNESCO temple complex with significant history. Then it's on to Champasak for the night.

Champasak to Don Khone
A short transfer gets you to where you board a boat to Don Khone, an island in the Mekong. During the boat ride, you'll see the river spread out into an inland delta. Once you arrive at the island, settle into your accommodation. Later in the evening, try local food including fresh fish served on the hotel terrace.

Don Khone
Start exploring Don Khone by checking out colonial remnants left from the French period, including an old railroad bridge. Then visit the Mekong waterfalls: the powerful Khone Phapheng and the scenic Li Phi falls. The afternoon opens up for relaxation before you have dinner with local specialties and watch the sunset.

Don Khone to Pakse to Thai Border to Ubon Ratchathani
It's time to leave Laos behind. You'll drive back to Pakse and continue to the Thai border where your Laotian guide says goodbye. After crossing the border and handling paperwork, an English-speaking guide takes over. You'll reach Ubon Ratchathani and have the rest of the day to yourself at your hotel.

Your transfer to Ubon Ratchathani Airport leaves at the time you arranged beforehand. You board your return flight home from there.
