Itinerary
- Day 1
Baga Gazaryn Chuluu
You'll meet at your hotel and drive out to Baga Gazaryn Chuluu, a granite mountain range in Dundgobi province. Once there, walk through ancient temple ruins and check out the petroglyphs carved into the rock. Keep your eyes open for ibex, argali sheep, vultures, and eagles that inhabit this mineral-rich landscape. By evening you'll settle into a tourist ger camp for the night.

- Day 2
White Stupa
After breakfast, you'll head to White Stupa to see limestone cliffs streaked with bright red and purple mineral deposits. The climb to the top takes some effort, but from there the views stretch across the steppes and badlands. You'll spend the night at a host camp, which gives you a chance to connect with local life.

- Day 3
Yolyn Am
Next you'll drive to Yolyn Am, a deep narrow gorge in the Gurvan Saikhan Mountains. The gorge gets its name from the Lammergeier eagle that soars overhead here. Walking through the valley, you'll learn about the area's history and probably spot large eagles and vultures. The night is spent at a tourist camp in the area.

- Day 4
Khongoryn Els
You'll travel to Khongoryn Els, one of Mongolia's largest sand dune systems. These dunes reach 100 meters high, stretch 12 kilometers wide, and extend for 100 kilometers across the desert. Climb the massive dunes, take in the desert landscape, ride camels if you'd like, and visit a nomadic family. A host camp is where you'll stay overnight.

- Day 5
Khongoryn Els
In the morning there's optional camel riding around the dunes if you want. After lunch with your host family, you'll climb to the top of the biggest dune for views across the landscape. That night you'll stay in the family's ger.

Landmarks Khongoryn Els - Day 6
Bayanzag
You'll drive from Khongoryn Els to Bayanzag, known locally as the Flaming Cliffs. This location is famous because the first dinosaur eggs were discovered here, along with fossils from Velociraptor and other eutherian mammals. You'll overnight at a tourist camp.

Ongi Monastery
After breakfast you'll leave Bayanzag and head to Ongi Monastery on the banks of the Ongi River. The monastery was built in the late 18th century to mark the first visit to Mongolia by a Dalai Lama, and at its peak it housed about 500 monks across 28 temples. Today most of it sits in ruins, though one temple was restored in 1994 and a few monks have come back. You'll stay overnight at a tourist camp.

Return to Ulaanbaatar
You'll drive back to Ulaanbaatar, arriving at your hotel by late afternoon. From there you'll settle in for the night before your trip wraps up.
