- Day 1
Cluj to Breb
You'll arrive at Cluj International Airport and drive toward Maramures, covering about 160 km over 3 hours. During the drive through Targu Lapus, you'll see some beautiful forested landscapes. Stop at the Strimbu Baiut virgin forest, a UNESCO-protected area, then head to Hoteni to walk around this hillside settlement. By evening you'll reach Breb for a traditional dinner and your first night's stay.

- Day 2
Breb
This day focuses on Maramures as an open-air museum. Starting in Breb, you'll visit UNESCO-listed houses and wooden churches while talking with locals about their lives and traditions. Lunch features fresh local products and fruity liqueurs. Later you'll travel to Sapanta to see the Merry Cemetery, then walk through Sighetu Marmatiei before heading back to your guesthouse for the evening.

Iza Valley Trek
Today involves an 8.5 km trek through the Iza Valley taking 4 to 6 hours with easy-moderate difficulty. You'll visit two UNESCO-listed wooden churches at Poienle Izei and Barsana, then check out traditional wood carving in a local workshop. After tasting local products, you'll head to Botiza village to see wool carpet production and meet the family who makes them.

Rodna Mountains Trek to Sucevita
After breakfast you'll head to Borsa and take a chairlift up into the Rodna Mountains for a 7.5 km trek lasting 4 to 5 hours with moderate difficulty. The highlight comes when you first see Stiol Lake, a glacier-fed body of water where the Bistrita river starts. The trail moves through forest initially, then opens into meadows with an easier descent. Evening brings a 230 km transfer to Sucevita, taking about 4 hours.

Moldovita Valley Walk
Start by visiting Sucevita Monastery and Marginea Pottery Workshop to learn about traditional black ceramic techniques. You'll also see painted eggs with traditional patterns and shop for traditional blouses. Later visit Voronet, known for its distinctive blue frescoes, then trek 5 km through a Hutsul village over 6 hours with moderate difficulty. Afterward you'll visit Moldovita Monastery, enjoy a picnic, and interact with local craftspeople before returning to Sucevita.

Lacu Rosu
You'll visit the Nicolae Popa Folk Art Museum in Târpesti to see festival masks and traditional costumes. Then your guide drives north, crossing the Bicaz Dam and heading around Lake Bicaz's east side. On clear days the Ceahlau Mountains are visible in the distance. Later this afternoon you'll explore Red Lake, known for its reddish color from river sediments and a local legend about a shepherd.

Hasmas National Park Trek to Viscri
A trek through Hasmas Mountains covers 4.7 km over 2 to 3 hours with moderate difficulty, crossing the historic Bicaz Bridge from 1926. You'll reach Suhard Lodge and follow a trail on the south wall of Small Suhard to a viewpoint where local black goats might be visible. Return to Lacu Rosu in the afternoon, then transfer to Viscri for lunch with Mama Gerda, who inspired Prince Charles's interest in Romanian cuisine.

Explore Viscri, a thousand-year-old village originally founded by Saxon settlers from Luxembourg. Take a horse-drawn carriage ride through this medieval village tucked under Transylvanian forests. In the afternoon you'll head to Sighisoara, the only inhabited medieval fortress listed by UNESCO. Walk winding cobblestone streets to the Clock Tower for views, check out the weapons museum and torture chamber, then climb 300 wooden steps to the 14th-century Church-on-the-Hill. You'll have free time to wander afterward.

You'll arrive in Cluj by evening.
