Is it safe to travel to China as an American citizen?

    Tour Details
    Travel Support
    • Crooked CompassOperatorWritten November 2025

At present, there are no formal travel bans or restrictions preventing US citizens from travelling to China for tourism. Many US travellers continue to visit safely and without issue, particularly when travelling with a reputable, well-organised operator. The US Department of State has a Level 3 travel advisory to 'reconsider travel' due to potential risks. We recommend ensuring passport and visa are in order, having comprehensive insurance, avoiding political discussions, and registering with US STEP program.

    Asked on November 18th, 2025

What airports do we fly in and out of coming from LAX and California United States of America. What is a soft sleeper on a train? I noticed that dinners are not covered. Are the recommended restaurants or food available at the hotels?

    Transport
    • Crooked CompassOperatorWritten November 2025

The tour starts in Kashgar which is the airport you will need to fly into. For the departure at the end of the tour, Beijing is where you will fly home from. A soft sleeper on a train in China is a bed that folds down from the wall as opposed to a hard sleeper which is sitting in a chair overnight.
