I am a solo traveller. Will this be a problem and how much more is it for 4 star rooms?

    • Bhutan Acorn Tours & TravelOperatorWritten February 2026

It is absolutely fine to book a solo trip. In fact, it is not very common for us to receive multiple bookings for the same tour starting on the same date because most of our bookings come from individuals, families and groups of friends each planning trip of varying duration and start date.

We will ensure that your trip is safe, comfortable and a truly memorable one.

Below is the list of 4-star hotels and its upgrade cost should you choose to upgrade:

In Thimphu: Terma Linca Resorts - USD 175.00 per night for Deluxe River View Single room inclusive of breakfast, dinner and taxes.

In Punakha: Dhensa Boutique Resort - USD 395.00 per night for a Suite Single room inclusive of breakfast, dinner and taxes.

In Paro: Naksel Boutique Hotel & Spa - USD 365.00 per night for a Super Deluxe Single room inclusive of breakfast, dinner and taxes.

    Asked on January 30th, 2026

I'm a single traveler just inquiring if it's safe to travel to Nepal since I would like to spend a few days before the Bhutan trip.

    Travel Support
    • Bhutan Acorn Tours & TravelOperatorWritten January 2026

It is generally safe. However, kindly ensure that the trip is organized through a licensed tour operator for your own assurance and compliance with local regulations.

For the Bhutan portion of the trip, we would like to assure you that we will take full responsibility for the arrangements and guarantee that your journey will be safe, well-organized, and conducted in accordance with all tourism and safety guidelines.

I'm traveling to Nepal initially. Do I need to cover the cost of the flight to Paro and back to Nepal and pay for the Bhutan visa?

    • Bhutan Acorn Tours & TravelOperatorWritten January 2026

Yes, you will have to purchase the round-trip flight tickets from Kathmandu to Paro. If you are planning to visit during the peak season of March to April and September to November, I recommend checking the flight availability and book it online.

As you might have already figured out, there are only 2 airlines that connects Bhutan with the regional gateway cities of Kathmandu, Bangkok, Delhi and Kolkata. The 2 airlines are Drukair and Bhutan Airlines.

The published price of USD 1,125.00 includes visa fee. A 20% deposit is required at the time of booking and the remaining 80% is due 60 days prior to the tour start date.

The visa is approved only after paying the visa fee and the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF). The SDF is sometimes called as the Government Fee as it is levied by the government. The SDF is USD 100 per night, so for the duration of 4 nights, it is USD 400. You will see this SDF is mentioned as "Local Payment" on the booking page.

We will pay the SDF in advance on your behalf to get the visa approved. So you will have to bring USD 400 in cash and pay us upon your arrival in Bhutan.

Which airlines would you recommend Bhutan or Drukair?

    • Bhutan Acorn Tours & TravelOperatorWritten January 2026

Drukair is the national flag carrier while Bhutan Airlines is private airline. Both are equally good.

There isn't much choice when it comes to the flight timing because both airlines have just one flight each with sinilar timings.

Bhutan Airlines is cheaper by about US$20 but you can book whichever timings work best for you.

Is it possible to book this tour for August 8th? Is August monsoon season in Bhutan? Should I postpone the trip?

    Tour Details
    Travel Support
    • Bhutan Acorn Tours & TravelOperatorWritten July 2025

August is monsoon season in Bhutan. Although there are chances of sporadic rains, it does not rain in the highland as much as it does in the southern region. You can plan to arrive after late September when the weather is dry and cool with clear skies.

Until when do I have to book it? Are there visa bureaucracies to resolve for traveling to Bhutan?

    • Bhutan Acorn Tours & TravelOperatorWritten July 2025

You can book at least 2 weeks before the tour start date. This will allow us sufficient time to process and get your visa approved on time and arrange the necessary ground logistics.

    Asked on February 2nd, 2025

    Payments
    Tour Details
    Visa
    • Bhutan Acorn Tours & TravelOperatorWritten February 2025

Visa fee is included in the price and therefore, we will process your visa on your behalf. Approval is 100% guaranteed as long as you send us clear copies of your passport and a headshot photo after you book the tour. The local payment of US$500, which is the Sustainable Development Fee, sometimes known as government fee, is payable in cash upon arrival. The fee is US$100 per night per person, so for the duration of 4 nights, it is US$400 per person. In case, for some reason, if your visa is denied (I guarantee 100% approval), all the payments you have made will be refund in full.

    Asked on January 13th, 2025

What is the procedure? Do I have to book the flight first or do I book the trip first? I'm a Singapore citizen & I realise there are limited direct flights. How much would the return flight be from Bangkok to Paro? Which airport is the flight leaving in Bangkok? How fast would I be able to get Bhutan visa? How much would be the land tour?

    Flights / Transfers
    Price / Availability
    Tour Details

    • Bhutan Acorn Tours & TravelOperatorWritten January 2025

Booking the flight first is recommended. The one-way economy airfare for Bangkok to Paro is around US$505. With discount, the one-way economy airfare for Bangkok-Paro is about US$360. Extra night can be arranged at US$270 per night, including Sustainable Development Fee, accommodation, meals, guide, transport, sightseeing.

    • K

      Kenneth

      TravelerWritten January 2025

I tried booking a return flight for BKK-Paro but was unable to. Does it have to be separate booking, for one-way flight for BKK-Paro & Paro-BKK? Wouldn't it be more expensive to book 2 one-way tickets compared to a return ticket? If I were to fly directly from Singapore to Paro, do I need a transit visa for India if we do not disembark the flight in India?

    • Bhutan Acorn Tours & TravelOperatorWritten January 2025

If you are flying into Bhutan from one city and flying out to another city, the airlines does not offer a choice to book altogether. Therefore, you have to book a separate ticket for each flight sector. The flight from Singapore to Bhutan is via Guwahati but you do not have to disembark. They stop for about 30-45 minutes to drop and pick other passengers. So you do not need transit visa.
