Get a step closer to island life on our walking tour of Crete. Discover isolated beaches, secluded coves, and impressive canyons as you walk and hike through the island's most-icon landscapes. Take on routes through the White Mountains and Samaria and Rouvas Gorges, then, at the end of the day, refuel with traditional Greek grub in local tavernas. We've graded the walking on this tour as moderate. You should have a good level of fitness and sure footedness, and be prepared for some longer, more challenging hikes. Many of the hikes on this tour are weather dependent. If rain is forecast, or in the case of extreme weather conditions, local rangers may close the Samaria Gorge trail for safety reasons. Extreme heat can also affect safety. While the hikes are graded as moderate, they may feel more challenging in warm conditions. Your tour leader will always make decisions in conjunction with local authorities, prioritising your safety based on the weather. The Samaria Gorge walk is a more challenging walk with a lot of ascent. Please make sure you are prepared for this walk prior to your holiday. Throughout this tour, we'll stay in locally-owned and run accommodation. While we're assured a warm welcome, there are not the luxuries of larger, chain hotels. It's worth noting that these smaller accommodations don't have lifts or porters so you'll need to carry your own luggage to your room. Remember to only pack what you can comfortably carry.
