This tour was an absolutely incredible experience. There were only 8 of us in the cycle group. I loved the mix of cycling and travelling across the country. Our tour guide Carlos was exceptionally professional and competent and went out of his way to ensure that we were looked after. We learned so much about all aspects of this beautiful country. I was the least experienced cyclist in the group and found the rides difficult on most days. I would say that you need to be able to bike at least 20km a day with ease to be able to do the cycling on this trip. There are many hills and the heat and humidity make the cycling very strenuous. Having said this I loved the challenge. Our guide who is a very experienced cyclist was an incredible motivator and I amazed myself by managing to complete the routes on some of the days. My main reason for booking the trip was the cycling. We had a briefing every day before and after our rides and the cameraderie in the group was so much fun. The cycle routes are amazing and have been really well planned so one gets a great mix of uphill, downhill, flat road and the Costa Rica scenery is just breathtaking-wild, rugged and off the beaten track. I learned a lot about cycling and how to pace myself and cycle to conserve energy on long routes.Show more

If you want a variety of adventures, beautiful scenery, a lot of wildlife, and great riding, Cycle Costa Rica will not disappoint. Most in our group found the riding easy to moderate, with the hills and the wind making for the moderate parts. It is nice to cycle shorter distances and in the morning when it's cooler, then have the afternoon free for adventures or a power-nap. Be prepared, most meals except breakfast are not incuded in the price, nor are the numerous optional adventures. Our tour leader Carlos was a font of knowledge, and went out of his way to give us the best experiences. I have completely fallen in love with this country and its people!Show more

This was a wonderful trip, exceeding all expectations and was very well organised with excellent accommodation. It comprised of a good balance between cycling and leisure , with the latter giving us time us to experience other activities. The guides were excellent - supportive, helpful, and caring as well as being great fun to be with. Their considerable knowledge of the flora and fauna resulted in making the trip a very informative experience. The highlights for me were cycling around Arenal Lake surrounded by stunning scenery, Tortugero National Park including the night boat ride, and the Hanging Bridge canopy walk. In terms of the cycling, I was surprised that it was graded easy/moderate. Despite training for this trip, I found some of it very tough going indeed, primarily in relation to the length and steepness of the hills. It seemed a grading of moderate might have been more appropriate. In total, however, this trip was fantastic and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to others, perhaps with the added caveat to do plenty of hill training before you go!Show more
