You need a Tibet permit and after the Tibet permit apply to the Tibet Visa for the same visa work to go China. We need a minimum of 4 people for the approval of the Tibet visa. You have to arrive 4 days before the tour in Kathmandu, Nepal because we have to process your passport to obtain the visa for the Chinese Embassy of Kathmandu.

For 1 March 2025 we don't have Group. If you want to do it solo it will be possible but It will cost USD 3016 net with discount.

Is the entire tour by bus? Or is there trekking in some segments?

when should I be in Katmandu in order to get the visa? I have to stay to a hotel there, right? could it be, that I don't get the Visa to get in Tibet? if so what about the payment? the flight to Lhasa can you make the booking? I guess the whole group has to be on the same flight?

If you want to do a visa process in your country it will be possible but you have to process a Chinese visa first then send me a copy of the visa for us to apply for the Tibet entry permit. One important thing to inform you for the Chinese visa process, don't tell you will go to Tibet when you apply the visa in your country, because if you tell you will go to Tibet, then they don't give visa, therefore you will have to tell that you will go to China.

Is there any hiking on this itinerary, or all driving?

There is no hiking only driving all the way.

Is there anywhere along the route that bathroom breaks would be available? My wife is 81 and in much better shape than me at 75. We have no problems with any of the steps or hikes that we need to do. Our only concern is for the long car rides.

As far as when we apply for the China permit, to do Beijing and Xian, we know that we are not supposed to say anything about Tibet. Would you be able to give us any advice about how we go about getting a permit from China to do Beijing and Xian?

Attempted to book the Forbidden Lhasa and Everest Base Camp tour with Adventure Himalayan Travels. Caveat emptor (buyer beware): You cannot enter Lhasa by air without using a China gateway city (Chengdu). You cannot enter Lhasa without a Tibet permit. To get a Tibet permit you must spend five days in Nepal and then fly to Chengdu and then to Lhasa. The PRC will not issue a China visa if you book travel to Tibet unless your tour operator has already obtained a Tibet permit. The tour operator does not disclose any of this in their brochure and you can be stuck with large expense.Show more

We always let our guests know that, to apply for a Tibet permit they must first attain a Chinese visa or a Tibet group visa. Without a proper visa, no one is able to first attain a Tibet permit. We also tell our guests, that they can apply only for a Tibet group visa from Nepal, for which the process requires 5 working days before the start of the tour (for which we help to do all the process), and has a very high chance of success. We don't have any connections to the Chinese embassy in Nepal let alone in the USA or other countries. to 100% guarantee our guests with a visa. We are sorry that you didn't get a Chinese visa from the USA to be able to visit Lhasa.

everything about this tour was more than we could have hoped for. From the moment we were met at Kathmandu airport by Mr. Rana we were completely taken care of. Our permit for Tibet was ready the three days later needed by the Chinese embassy in Kathmandu. We were transferred for our flight to Lhasa and met at hotel in KTM upon our overland return from Tibet. The tour of TIbet with driver and guide followed faithfully our itinerary, the highlight of course being an unobstructed sunrise of the north face of Everest. Our guide was very solicitous of us all the way, always being sure the altitude was OK for us. Both he and the driver were always on time, we travelled many kms. But not tiring. This was the trip of a lifetime, you indeed feel you are at the top on the world in these beautiful mountain valleys surrounded by unforgettable peaks. Unless you want to include Mount Kailish, this 9 day trip was the perfect amount of time, Staying in Lhasa for three nights helped the acclimatization to the altitude, although Everest Base Camp is a bit of a stretch. But the alternative to staying at a hotel two hours away outweighed the discomfort (we did not take diamox and were OK). Overland to Kathmandu from Tibetan border was an experience, but not to be missed. If I was to decide to do this over again, this would be the itinerary, and Adventure Himalayan Travels out of Kathmandu would be the agent. To start in Lhasa and end in KTM is much the best direction, you need to have a week to acclimatize to 5200 m. At Everest, plus the view is better from the north side.   If your wife is 81 and in better shape then in my opinion it will not be a problem for her to do this tour. There will be about 200-300 km drive some days which is around 6-7 hours ride. I hope it will not be trouble for you because of this. Since it is private car, you can take bathroom breaks whenever you want to along the way. There are restrooms available some places along the way.

  If you wish to apply for a Chinese visa by yourself, then we ask you to not mention anything about visiting Tibet to the Chinese embassy as they will reject your visa if you tell them you will be going to Tibet. Just tell them you will be visiting places in China. I am not able to help you for a permit to visit Beijing and Xian as we are not experts for the places in China. We only operate within Tibet.
