  I am currently on the Best of Italy tour with my mother and father. The seats on the tour bus are quite close...
  I am currently on the Best of Italy tour with my mother and father. The seats on the tour bus are quite close together, and my 72-year-old father (who is 6’5) cannot fit his legs inside the seat. When he sits in a regular seat, he must sit sideways so that his knees extend into the aisle. Other travelers have difficulty getting past him on the bus because the aisle is also quite narrow. When he discussed this problem with our guide, who is otherwise friendly, the guide informed him that since the seats are randomized every day, he cannot accommodate my father to give him one of 5 the seats on the bus which have enough leg room for him. He also informed my dad that he cannot ask anyone to trade seats. Unfortunately, he will have to sit sideways for several hours at a time over the next 2 weeks, as our tour covers most of Italy. We are all very disappointed in trafalgar and their unwillingness to accommodate a physical limitation. Although the staff have been friendly, this is a substantial problem for us, and we are unlikely to travel with trafalgar in the future. In addition, we will advise those we know against touring with trafalgar.Show more

We apologise that your father's height is causing him discomfort on the coach seats; however, to maintain fairness and improve the overall experience of our guests, Trafalgar has implemented a daily seat rotation system that our Travel Directors must follow. We've designed our Trafalgar tours to accommodate up to fifty-two guests on our luxury coaches, although we average forty – forty-five guests. If you prefer additional space, our sister company, Insight Vacations, features specially reconfigured coaches with only forty seats, so guests enjoy business-class legroom. A Classic Insight Vacations tour will have a maximum of 40 travellers, while their Small Group departures have a maximum of just twenty-four. We understand that you may not wish to travel with us again, but we hope you can still appreciate the beauty of Italian culture and the stunning views this country has to offer.

  There were aspects of our trip that was excellent and a few that were poor to okay. Tourism is way up in Italy this year and you really get a sense the service sector there is fatigued with it. We found about half our food service arrangements were lacking with respect to food quality and service. Not once did we find fresh bread at a restaurant for example. The brochure from the tour operator needs to be taken with a grain of salt and it would be helpful if a few days before tour start it could be communicated what we were actually doing. For example, our Best of Italy tour was to visit the forum in Roma but only view the Colosseum from the outside. When we got there we discovered we would not be going to the forum but would be going into the Colosseum. Luckily we had time due to an early arrival to arrange tickets to go to the Palatine Hill and the forum. Would have been nice to know in advance. Be prepared that you will likely find a lot of issues with air conditioning in some of the older hotels. Prepare yourself, not much can be corrected other than perhaps getting a different room if it is available. Your tour director will do their best but the last line of defense is "it is all part of the travel experience". Italian breakfasts are usually a croissant and capuccino so if you go expecting a more hearty breakfast it will not be done well. Scrambled eggs and bacon are usually available but we rarely found the eggs to be real eggs - more like powdered egg soup and the bacon was more often than not undercooked. The farewell dinner was a set menu in a restaurant near the final hotel and the service and quality of food was very poor. It was obvious that while the restaurant opened this evening just for us due to contractual obligations, the minimum effort was put forward. Our bread was from days ago and dropped on each table inside a small paper bag. My suggestion is that Trafalgar skip the dinner and instead host a reception with appetizers and drinks so we could socialize more with our new tour friends. Shangri-La hotel was the final stay on the tour. We booked a couple extra days to stay in Roma and wish we had relocated to a hotel in the ancient city. Other than the mall (EUROMA), there is very little in the area. A taxi to Piazza Navonna was about 22 euro but if we had a hotel in walking distance we could have freshened up and had dinner feeling a lot less tired, hot and sweaty.Show more

We are sorry to read that certain aspects of your itinerary did not meet your expectations, particularly the entrance to the Colosseum. Given the popularity of travel and the limited number of tickets that are now sold to help preserve the site, it is proving to be incredibly difficult to obtain tickets to this iconic landmark. Should we be unable to procure tickets, we will offer an alternative experience. We were also concerned to learn that some of the hotels and meals have fallen below your expectations and did not meet the standards we are recognised for, and we would like to apologise for any discomfort caused as a result. Our Contracting team puts considerable effort into selecting our hotels to ensure we offer comfort at great value. As such, we have shared your comments with our relevant departments to ensure the accommodation and meals continue to provide the best experience for our guests. With that in mind, hopefully, we will have the opportunity to restore your impression of our experiences in the future.

  Overall I had a wonderful experience but the included meals were not great and in some situations the booking expectations did not meet what was given (many of the optional items that were included in the booking tour itinerary cost extra). Again good trip, but be forewarned it is a lot. You spend a lot of time on the coach, as expected since you’re traveling the distance, and often there is very little time left to rest and relax for the entirety of the trip—I was worn out and glad I baked in some days after to just chill out. I will note, our driver and tour guide were fantastic and extremely knowledgeable!Show more

  Good trip. My only concern was how you itemize the trip overview. You say 13 days and on the 13th day you write trip ends. It might help to include DEPART on day 13. I didn'r realize and booked flights trhe next day. Had to stay another day.Show more
