  A busy but really well-thought itinerary, which (if weather conditions allow) shows many sides of Bulgaria, its culture, touristic towns and villages, mountain trails and nature gems. A spot on was our guide Nadya, who did a great job to keep a multi-national group together at all times, and made her best to make every minute of our stay in her beautiful country a memorable experience for everyone.Show more

  An action packed week, exploring the mountains and culture sites of Bulgaria. If you are looking for a leisurely paced holiday this tour is not a good option, as it literally keeps you busy all day long. But this was exactly the style of travel we were looking for and we enjoyed it a lot! We are already thinking to return and spend more time along the mountain trails only, as there are superb areas for hiking in Rila and Pirin. Highly recommended tour to those who cannot afford too much time and wish to see and explore as much as possible within 8 days.Show more

  Time well spent exploring intensively the scenic hiking trails and culture sights of Bulgaria. Great combination of activities if you lack the time to allow 2 weeks and cover in detail the places we did. Nadya did a great job as a tourleader and Traventuria did just great as a host on this memorable holiday.Show more

  The weather was dismal, we could not do most of the walks planned. There was no plan B or ability to reverse the order of the trip with the weather. All in all I will remember the rain and the road journey more than anything else. Plovdiv is not really worth visiting either, I would rather cut it out. The time travelling in a van is very extensive and does not leave much time for nature walks.Show more

  Dear Carole, Thank you very much for your feedback. Unfortunately yours, and also several of our other hiking groups at the same time, have been badly affected by the Nefeli cyclone, which have been flooding Greece and Bulgaria in the past 10 days or so. Unseen amounts of rain (up to 200 litres per square meter), and even snow in some parts of the area, have made this week a nightmare for everybody booked on outdoor activities in the region. Changing accommodations every day (as per program) doesn’t leave options for plan B as you still need to make it somehow to the next overnight place. And on a hiking tour everybody expects to walk outside and not to be entertained indoors. Changing the direction of the tour is not logistically adequate either, and definitely wouldn’t help when the whole country is affected by the storm ant not just certain parts of it. Yes, the program is intensive, but the itinerary has been optimized through the years to give you maximum impressions on Bulgarian culture and nature, and is easily performed when the weather is normal. I really wish you had experienced completely different (normal actually) weather conditions, but this is beyond our control. We have more dedicated hiking tours, which concentrate less on culture and travelling among different sites, and consists of full hiking days only.   What a great tour, and what a brilliant guide, who took care of a really colorful mixture of travelers from 6 countries: from couch potatoes to amateur athletes. The minibus that we took was modern and comfortable and the driver experienced, highly competent and friendly. The accommodation arranged for us was lovely, often family run hotels, with clean rooms with ensuite bathrooms and pleasant staff. The generous meals were all of delicious healthy local food, and all the restaurants were able to accommodate the requirements of the vegetarians in our party. Our guide took great care to organise walks that suited all of us, usually involving a loop walk for the entire party, with an additional loop extension in the middle for those who wanted more challenges, while the others could rest and enjoy the scenery. He set a pace that was manageable by the least fit of us, and gave sufficient directions to those who wished to walk ahead. He spoke excellent English and was always ready with information about the places we visited. All of us had an extraordinary time in Bulgaria, and we would love to return. Can't recommend Traventuria highly enough.Show more

  When booking the tour I didn't know anything about Bulgaria. This seemed to be a good opportunity to combine hiking in different mountains and sightseeing at the same time. And this worked out just perfect! The whole itinerary is very well thought. The guide Nellie was very friendly, knowledgeable and took a good care about the different personalities within the group, without leaving everyone's special interests behind. The night with the local family in Liaskovo was a blast: not only the warm welcome provided by our hosts there, but also the food and the whole entertainment together with our hosts' son and his bagpipe. That was definitely a night to remember. Regretfully we only have limited time to explore such a varied destination. The short hikes, that gave us a taste of what Rila and Pirin mountains can offer, only made us eager to come and visit again, next time on a more dedicated hiking tour. Stunning landscapes, which we only had a short time to enjoy. Thank you Traventuria for such a memorable holiday!Show more
