Hi Christian, thank you for such thoughtful and constructive feedback. We’re delighted that you had an amazing time on Yanis Island and enjoyed its beautiful, relaxing setting. We’re sorry that the waterfront coordination and language barrier made parts of the experience unclear, particularly the sunken gunboat and the optional Kuna Yala village visit. Your comments about providing simple island activities and setting clearer expectations for the 4x4 journey are also very helpful, and we’ll share them with the local team. Most importantly, we’re thrilled that you loved the trip overall. Thank you for encouraging other travellers to experience this little paradise!

Rachel, thank you for sharing such detailed and balanced feedback about your journey. We’re delighted that you found the guides helpful and informative and that, overall, you had a great tour. We are concerned to hear about the driver travelling at an unsafe speed—safety must always come before keeping to schedule—and we will ensure this feedback is passed to the appropriate team. Your comments regarding breakfast communication and providing bottled water are equally valuable and will help us improve the experience. Thank you again for bringing these points to our attention.

It sounds like you had a memorable journey through South Korea, Susanne! We’re delighted that Justin brought each destination to life through its history and culture while giving everyone the freedom to explore and sample the local food. It’s also wonderful to hear how much you appreciated the history and culture booklet. Thank you for your helpful suggestion about allowing more time for browsing, shopping and enjoying the larger sites—we’ll share it with the team. We hope to see you on another adventure soon!

Laura, thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed account of your stay. We’re glad you appreciated Yanis Island’s natural beauty, peaceful atmosphere and the memorable experience of waking up over the ocean. As outlined in the trip information, this is an intentionally rustic, nature-focused experience rather than a resort stay. The accommodation has limited amenities, and meals are basic and depend on what is available locally and seasonally. Nevertheless, we understand that the limited vegetarian variety was disappointing and appreciate you highlighting it. Most importantly, rustic conditions should never mean unacceptable cleanliness or sanitation. We are very concerned by your comments about the rubbish and bathroom facilities, and we will raise these matters directly with the local team for urgent review. We’re truly sorry that the conditions led you to leave a day early and that you felt the experience did not offer fair value. Your feedback will help us reinforce essential hygiene standards while ensuring the rustic accommodation, limited facilities and simple meal arrangements are communicated as clearly as possible.

About Bamba

The beginning... bamba started operating with a hop-on hop-off bus service. After trial and error, bamba realised that travellers were very interested in not only being around other backpackers and meeting them, but they also wanted to have the opportunity to travel in local transportation, and have many more interactions with local people. For this reason, bamba decided to create a new way of travelling, called the Flexible Travel Pass. Travellers still have the same flexibility to stay as long as they want in each destination, and create their own itinerary; while at the same time travelling not only in shuttle vans with other backpackers, but also with a mix of local transportation such as Public Buses, Boats, Trains and sometimes flights. The idea behind this is to make sure travellers have the opportunity to travel in exactly the same way as if they were travelling on their own, but much easier and with the reassurance that they make the most out of their travel experience. Today, bamba has grown in size from Paul and Arturo’s original vision to include buses, experiences, guides and support staff in more than 80 countries worldwide! What bamba is today... bamba is the one stop solution for independent travellers in Latin America and around the world. bamba’s purpose is to make independent travel very easy. We help travellers by giving them the opportunity to create their own schedules, choose the route they want to follow and let them stay for as long as they want in each destination. bamba’s objective is to remove language barriers and the bureaucracy of developing countries by acting as an office where travellers can easily contact us, speak in English, make bus bookings, changes to their bus trips, get information on bus schedules, departure points, book day and multi-day trips easily and get information about each destination. We are like a living guidebook, and respond to the real time necessities of the clients. With our help, travellers will spend more time travelling, and less time arranging and figuring out their trip. We are expert world travellers, and we love what we do!

Questions & Answers

  • Is accommodation included in the Hop-on Hop-off passes?

For Hop-On Hop-Off Passes, accommodation is not included because we want to give travellers the flexibility to stay as long as they wish in each destination. Bamba provides you with a list of recommended accommodation in each destination so you can choose where to stay.
  • What transportation is included in the Hop-on Hop Off pass?

Depending on the route or activity, you may be travelling by bus, boat, train, airplane, shuttle van, bicycle, canoe or even on foot… (you get the idea). On the trip of a lifetime, you may find yourself sitting next to a local on a public bus or riding in an air-con shuttle, bumping along in a motorised canoe or going by foot… the possibilities are endless! Whatever the mode of transportation, getting from one point to the next will surely be a memorable experience.
  • What is a bus tour adventure?

Bus tours offer a cheap way to visit touristic sites. You will usually be travelling with a large group by bus, on a fixed schedule. Most of these tours only include bus transportation and accommodation, entrance fees and activities must be paid locally. These are independent tours accompanied by a tour coordinator who will organise the tour but not guide you.
  • What to expect on a small group adventure?

These small group adventures include great local guides, all of your transportation, accommodation, and some meals. They give you the chance to move around more easily, step off the beaten path, and immerse yourself in the local culture. You’ll usually share your trip with no more than 12 like-minded travellers, though the average group size is often lower.

  • Who will I be travelling with?

Most of our trips cater to the adventurous independent traveller. In fact, many of our travellers arrive on their own and they quickly find that they easily meet like-minded people along the way at their hostels, on transportation, or during activities. Regarding transportation, depending on the route, you might find yourself travelling on a public bus side by side with locals while at other times, you’ll take a tourist shuttle.
  • Do I need a visa?

Bamba recommends that you check the visa requirements at the appropriate embassies for your nationality at least 2-3 months in advance so you will have time to prepare your documents. Remember to make sure you have a valid passport with at least 2 empty visa pages and a minimum 6-months validity before travelling.
  • Do I need travel insurance?

Bamba Experience does not include travel insurance of any type. We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance for your trip especially when travelling in developing countries and discourage passengers to travel without travel insurance. Your current medical insurance may cover part of your trip so it is important for you to become familiar with your current coverage. We recommend purchasing additional travel insurance that provides coverage for medical emergencies, emergency evacuation and repatriation, lost or stolen items and unforeseen cancellations. If you plan to participate in activities such as white-water rafting, trekking, sand-buggy rides, etc… please make sure they are included on the policy.
  • What is the age limit?

Most of our Bamba travellers fall between the ages of 18 - 35, but everyone is young at heart and welcome to come experience the world with us! If you are between the ages of 18 and 118, we invite you to travel with Bamba Experience and have the time of your life! Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
