Do I need a guide for the Nepalese Himalayas?

If you are an experienced, competent, and confident trekker, you’ll be pleased to know that Nepal has many options for you to trek independently. However, there are a few restrictions and requirements that you need to abide by. The beauty of trekking solo is that you have complete control over when and where you want to go, and can move at your own pace. On the other hand, the benefit of travelling with a guide is that you can learn more about the local culture and make the most of local expertise.

For regions including the Langtang or Annapurna region, for example, trekkers are required to obtain a TIMS card (Trekker’s Information Management System). These cards are mandatory to ensure the safety of foreign travellers.
