Hi there, me and my boyfriend did this tour in May 2017 and it was great. If you would like a breakdown of the tour, accommodation, what we spent, what the transport is like and even what to wear you will find all the information on my website http://thetaylorstravels.com/index.php/india/. I hope it helps thanks!!

We had a lovely mix of people and fantastic guide who was always there to help. Enjoyed the trip but the one thing that disappointed me was that they always expect you to tip everyone from waiters to guides on tours when the cost of the tour was included, so you had to pay a lot of tips ontop of what was included. Also a lot of the transport was not included, even though it said on the description and sta travel reassured us it was all included. If you choose to pay and do extra activities that aren't in the cost then that's fine but if you don't have much extra cash (which we didn't) you'll find you have a lot of spare time in places you definitely wouldn't want to explore without your guide so a lot of hanging around in hotels. The hotels were all very nice and welcoming. The transport was ok, what we expected except one of the trains where we were put at the very front of the train which was beeping the horn continuously for 6-7hours, was massively uncomfortable and very very cold so take extra layers for when on transport! The other buses and trains were ok but keep hold of your luggage, lock everything that's important to you. One girl had her passport stolen whilst on the overnight train. If you don't mind some uncomfortable transport, paying a little extra than expected for additional activities and tips but want to see some utterly amazing places and experience the real India then it's the trip for you. Even better if you've travelled other parts of Asia as you'll be aware of the customs and atmosphere of these places. Don't forget a head scarf! You will need it a lot to get into temples and take clothes to cover up your body. Also one last note, travel light! We were able to leave some luggage at our first hotel as we started and finished at the same place but I still took too much and you do have your rucksack on a lot when travelling from one place to another so don't take more than you can reasonably carry!! Overall I am very glad I choose India on a shoestring as it was good value for money but just didn't expect all the extra money I'd need.

Questions & Answers

Here we have collected and answered the most frequently asked questions about this tour.

    • September 23, 2016

The India on a shoestring suggests the age range is 18 to 39. I am a fit 53 year old, so can I go on this trip?

This is a YOLO G Adventures trip that is indeed age restricted from 18 to 39 years old and I am afraid they can't book older travellers.

These trips are geared towards active, budget-minded young travellers who want to meet other people from all over the world, and tend to be very popular with students and backpackers.

If you are looking for a tour better suited to your age range, I have found other G Adventures options that are open age and look pretty good too:

TourRadar does not charge any booking fees or credit card fees. The only other fees that would be incurred would be for extra services such as airport transfers, extra accommodation, pre-paid gratuities, and would only be added at your request.
