Beijing
You'll be picked up at the airport or train station and taken to your hotel in downtown Beijing. The rest of the day is free, so you can either rest from your journey or wander around the neighborhood near your hotel to get your bearings.

- Day 2
Beijing
After breakfast, you'll head out with your guide to see Beijing's main sights. First comes Tiananmen Square, then a walk through the Forbidden City with its 8,700+ rooms and 500 years of history. Next you'll take a 15-minute walk up to Jingshan Park for views across the city. In the afternoon, you'll go to the Summer Palace to walk through the imperial gardens and temples.

- Day 3
Beijing
Early morning you'll drive about 1.5 to 2 hours northwest to Mutianyu Great Wall. A cable car takes you up to the 14th watchtower, and from there you can hike along the wall toward the 20th watchtower with good views the whole way. On the drive back to downtown Beijing, you'll stop to photograph the Bird's Nest and Water Cube from the 2008 Olympics. You'll return to your hotel in time to rest.

Beijing to Shanghai
After breakfast, you have free time to explore Beijing on your own before heading to the train station. You'll take the high-speed train to Shanghai, which takes about 4.5 to 5.5 hours. Once you arrive, someone will meet you at the station and drive you to your downtown Shanghai hotel, where you'll have the evening free.

- Day 5
Shanghai
Today covers Shanghai's mix of old and new. You'll ride up Shanghai Tower (China's tallest at 632 meters) in one of the world's fastest elevators to the 118th floor for 360-degree views. Then you'll visit Shanghai Museum to see 120,000 cultural objects from 5,000 years of Chinese art. After that, you'll walk through Yu Garden to see the classical architecture and gardens, then check out Yuyuan Bazaar for local snacks and crafts. Late afternoon brings a stroll down Nanjing Road and along the Bund to see its 52 historic buildings and the Pudong skyline.

This is your last day. You'll have free time in Shanghai to explore what you might have missed, then you'll be transferred to the airport or train station for your departure flight or train to wherever you're headed next.
