Kharkhorin
You'll leave the Gobi desert and head toward central Mongolia, traveling about 350 km on a mix of paved and off-road routes. The main focus here is Erdene Zuu Monastery, where you'll see the golden roofs and experience the blend of Tibetan Buddhist and Mongolian architecture that makes this place distinct. Plan for a full day of driving and exploring the monastery grounds.

- Day 2
Orkhon Valley
Today takes you to the Orkhon Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site that's been home to nomadic pastoral traditions for over 2,000 years. You'll hike around the waterfall area to get a feel for the landscape, then settle into a traditional ger with a nomadic family for the night. The drive is about 120 km on off-road terrain, so expect some rough riding.

- Day 3
Orkhon Valley
This day is spent on horseback exploring the Orkhon Valley with a local nomad guide. You'll ride across grasslands, forests, and hills while looking for ancient mounds and wildlife like soaring eagles. The Orkhon River runs through the area, and you'll have a simple lunch outdoors before heading back to the ger. The ride covers roughly 20 to 30 km of off-road terrain.

Landmarks Orkhon River - Day 4
Tuvkhun Monastery
You'll climb Mount Shireet Ulaan to reach Tuvkhun Monastery, a spiritual site founded by the monk Zanabazar. Once there, you can walk through the gilded temples and look at the intricate artwork, visit the sacred caves, and use the meditation platform for views out over the Orkhon Valley. After all that, you'll spend the evening with the nomadic family. The trip is about 120 km of off-road driving.

Tsenkher Hot Spring
You're headed to Tsenkher Hot Spring, where mineral-rich waters have been used for centuries to treat various ailments. The water contains sodium carbonate, bicarbonate, sulfate, and hydrogen sulfide, which some believe help with rheumatism and muscle aches. Beyond soaking, you'll hike around the area and check out nearby ruins and monasteries. Expect about 130 km of off-road travel.

Elsen Tasarkhai National Park
Elsen Tasarkhai is a strange desert landscape with vast dunes that stretch 80 kilometers south of Khogno Khan National Park. The area splits into Mongol Els and Khugnu Tarnyn Els, with moisture hiding beneath the sand that supports shrubs and plant life. You'll have chances to ride camels, hike around, stargaze at night, and meet another nomadic family. The distance is about 200 km total.

Terelj National Park
Terelj National Park holds the colossal Chinggis Khaan Equestrian Statue standing above the grasslands. You can climb inside the statue and go up to a viewing platform for views across the valley. The park has hiking trails to explore, plus a crater and cave to check out. You'll travel about 420 km on paved and off-road routes getting there and back.

Ulaanbaatar
Your final day brings you back to Ulaanbaatar on paved road, covering around 60 km. You'll notice small patches of sand appearing along the route as you head back to the city. This marks the end of your Mongolia tour and arrival in the capital.
