So far, we’ve been on three travel tours — two with Europamundo and one with another company — and, by far, "The Essence of Korea and Jeju Island" tour was the most rewarding experience, thanks largely to the exceptional tour guides. Johan Jungtaek Hong served as our Korean-to-English translator on the first day, setting a warm and welcoming tone. He shared thoughtful background information about each site before we arrived and spoke about his family’s history of service to the country, highlighting Korea’s enduring strength and resilience. Since we didn’t know anyone in South Korea and weren’t sure how we’d be received, Johan played a crucial role in helping us feel grounded and quickly find our rhythm on the tour. Seony Kim rotated in at the end of the first day as our translator for the following days, and her dedication was evident from the start. She actively guided us to hidden gems at each site, making sure we didn’t miss a thing. A gifted storyteller with a deep understanding of Korean history and culture, Seony brought each location to life with insight drawn from her passion for history. Thanks to her, we left every site with a deeper appreciation and a genuine curiosity about Korea’s past and present. Not only is she fluent in Korean and English, but she’s also learning Spanish! Although most people on the tour spoke Spanish and very few spoke English, Johan and Seony looked out for everyone, offering to take pictures and answering questions about tour logistics and historical sites. We are incredibly grateful to our tour guides for making our experience in South Korea truly wonderful. Any traveler would be very lucky to have them on their journey. Thank you, Johan, Seony, and Europamundo!
