Florence to Montecatini Terme
You'll arrive in Florence and then take a scenic drive north around Monte Albano toward your hotel in Montecatini Terme. If you're coming by train instead, you can head directly to Montecatini Terme and skip the drive entirely. Either way, you'll settle into your base for the week.

San Gimignano - Fattoria Wine Tasting
Start at the 11th century church of San Piero a Grado, where St. Peter supposedly first stepped on Italian soil. From there, you'll drive through vineyards and cypress-lined roads to San Gimignano, that medieval town known for its towers. Walk the old streets and catch views from the fortifications, then head to a fattoria in the afternoon where you can taste local wine, bruschetta, and other regional specialties.

Florence
Take the train to Florence for the day. You'll walk through the old town and check out Santa Maria Novella church and Basilica di San Lorenzo, where you can see Michelangelo's Medici tombs. Browse the market at San Lorenzo, then visit the cathedral with its marble facade and the baptistery featuring the Door of Paradise. By afternoon, catch a bus to Piazzale Michelangelo for views across the city before heading back.

Montecatini Terme / Lucca
This day is yours to spend however you'd like in Montecatini Terme. If you want something organized, take a guided train trip to Lucca. Once there, explore Piazza del Mercato, see San Michele in Foro and San Frediano churches, and walk around the cathedral's impressive facade. You can bike the old city walls or just wander. Later in the evening, consider taking the cable car up to Montecatini Alto for dinner and views.

Pisa
Head by train to Pisa to see the Leaning Tower and surrounding sites at Piazza dei Miracoli. You'll visit the Cathedral, the Baptistery with Pisano's work, and the famous tower itself, which has been stabilized and secured. Check out the Camposanto Monumentale, the cemetery containing earth from the Holy Land and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take a walk through the lively university town, then catch a train back to Montecatini in the afternoon for free time.

Siena
Travel to Siena, which many consider Tuscany's most beautiful city. You'll see characteristic Gothic architecture with tall brick palaces that have stayed essentially unchanged for centuries. Visit the famous semi-circular Piazza del Campo with its marble fountain, then tour the Gothic cathedral featuring a wonderful marble floor and colorful facade. While you're there, try some of Siena's local sweet specialties, particularly almond pastries.

- Day 7
Montecatini Terme / Florence
Organize today however you prefer. One option is a guided train trip back to Florence. Walk to Piazza della Signoria, which functions like an open-air museum with Palazzo Vecchio and the Loggia dei Lanzi filled with sculptures. See the Fountain of Neptune and the Uffizi Gallery entrance, home to one of the world's largest art collections. Stroll across Ponte Vecchio, the oldest bridge over the Arno lined with goldsmiths, then spend leisure time before returning to Montecatini by train.

Montecatini Terme to Munich
Depart Montecatini Terme by train to head back to Munich, traveling either by train or plane. You'll have time to reflect on Etruscan buildings, Gothic cathedrals, rolling green hills, and the lovely Tuscan landscape. If you've booked extra time in Tuscany, you can stay on and continue exploring.
