    Arrival in Beijing

    Your flight lands in Beijing where your private guide meets you at the airport. A driver takes you to the hotel with help handling luggage and getting checked in, so you can settle in and rest after traveling.

  2. Day 2

    Beijing

    Start at Tian'anmen Square, then move into the Forbidden City where your guide walks you through royal history and stories. From there, head to Jingshan Park for views across the city. Later you'll wander through the old Hutongs neighborhoods, try Beijing Opera Facial Makeup artistry, and end with Peking Roasted Duck dinner at Quanjude restaurant.

    Head out to Mutianyu section of the Great Wall where you'll climb the ancient stone steps and explore the watchtowers with panoramic views around you. In the afternoon, visit the Temple of Heaven and participate in a guided tai chi experience on the temple grounds to finish the day.

    Explore the Summer Palace's various halls and buildings, then walk through the Long Corridor and see the marble boat. Visit Yonghe Temple to see the blend of Tibetan and Han Chinese architecture. After some free time, you'll take a 4.5-hour high-speed train to Xi'an in second class seating, arriving for hotel check-in later that evening.

    Xi'an to Chongqing

    After some free time, your guide takes you to the train station for a 5.5-hour bullet train to Chongqing in second class. Once you arrive, meet your guide at the ferry terminal for hotel transfer. That evening you'll walk through Three Gorges Museum, Hongya Cave, Jiefangbei Square, and Ciqikou with its traditional shops and local snacks. Then head to the Ferry Terminal to board the cruise.

    Shanghai

    Walk through French Concession, the former French colonial area that returned to China in 1946. See Yuyuan Garden and the nearby Chenghuangmiao temple. Then explore the old Shanghai neighborhoods called Nongtang and the vanishing traditional life they represent. Cap off the day at Xintiandi shopping center and the Bund waterfront with its 1920s buildings showing the city's colonial past.
