Beijing
Head out on a 2-hour drive to Mutianyu Great Wall, which dates back 600 years to the early Ming Dynasty. You can hike up the wall or take the cable car, then wander around the ancient structure and take in the mountain views.

Beijing to Zhangjiajie
Start your day at Tian'anmen Square, then walk over to the Forbidden City for a guided tour of the massive palace complex. After that, you'll catch a flight to Zhangjiajie and head to your hotel to check in.

Zhangjiajie
Drive for about an hour to Zhangjiajie National Park and take the high-speed elevator up to Yuanjiajie to see those tall pillar mountains you might recognize from Avatar. From there, go to Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve for wide-ranging views, then check out Shilihualang either by electric train or on foot for 30 minutes.

- Day 5
Zhangjiajie
Make your way to Tianmen Mountain and cross the glass walkway to reach the Gateway of Heaven. You'll walk through Tongtian Avenue, see Tianmen Cave and Temple, traverse the Ghost-valley plank road, and reach Yunmeng Fairy Summit. Later, ride the world's longest cableway (7455 meters with 1518 meters elevation drop) back down the mountain.

- Day 6
Zhangjiajie to Fenghuang
Take a 1-hour bullet train to Fenghuang, an old town that sits along the Tuo River. Spend the rest of your day and evening walking through the historic streets and enjoying the riverside setting.

- Day 7
Fenghuang to Tongren
Drive for about 2 hours to Mt Fanjing, a UNESCO World Heritage site from 2018. Take the cable car partway up, then continue on foot to see the Golden Summit, Yuejing Mountain, Sleeping Buddha, Mushroom Stone and other spots. Head back to your hotel in Tongren for the night.

Tongren to Longji
You'll be on the road for roughly 5 hours (400km) from Tongren to Longji to see the rice terraces. Check into a local inn that offers views of the terraced paddies below.

- Day 9
Longji to Yangshuo
Take walks around PingAn and Dazhai villages with the rice paddies all around you, and head uphill if you want broader views. After lunch, drive 3 hours to Yangshuo, a town by the Li River with steep Karst mountains nearby. In the evening, walk through West Street to get a feel for the place.
