This morning you'll start at Edinburgh Bus Station and head north through Fife to Lindores Abbey Distillery, where Scottish whisky actually got its start. From there, the route takes you into Cairngorms National Park with a lunch stop in Braemar. After eating, you'll visit the Whisky Castle for a tasting of three Speyside malts, then settle into your accommodation in Grantown-on-Spey for the next two nights. You'll cover some beautiful terrain and get your first real taste of what makes Scottish whisky special.

  2. Day 2

    Speyside Whisky Region

Your day centers on Scotland's whisky country in Speyside, where you'll get a hands-on look at how this famous spirit comes together. Start at the Glenlivet Distillery to walk through their whisky-making process and taste three different drams, then break for lunch in the nearby village of Aberlour. After eating, head to Speyside Cooperage where you can watch craftspeople shape and assemble barrels the traditional way. The day wraps up at Cardhu Distillery, where you'll learn about Helen Cumming, the pioneering woman who ran the operation, and take part in their Mystery Whisky Challenge by tasting five different expressions. You'll end the day with a solid understanding of whisky production from grain to glass, plus a palate that's gotten quite the workout.

After that, you'll walk through the Hermitage forest among tall Douglas firs and see a cascading waterfall. The final whisky experience happens in the quaint village of Dunkeld before heading back to Edinburgh. Good size group. Great driver/guide. Excellent narration - just the right amount and tone. Speyburn was a good stop - keep it. Excellent hotels. Great stops. Good pacing. Could have done with one more distillery tour.
