    Xi'an

    You'll arrive in Xi'an and get picked up from the airport for transfer to your hotel. This gives you time to settle in and rest after your journey to this historic Silk Road city.

  2. Day 2

    Xi'an

    After an hour's drive, you reach the Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum to see the three excavation pits with their 2000-year-old figures. Back in Xi'an, you'll walk the 14-km Ming Dynasty City Wall and then head into the Muslim Quarter to wander through markets, shops, and grab some food at local restaurants.

  4. Day 4

    Lanzhou to Labrang

    You'll drive for 4 hours to reach Xiahe (called Labrang in Tibetan). In the afternoon, visit Labrang Monastery, one of the six largest Tibetan monasteries, where you can see typical Tibetan Buddhist culture and practices firsthand.

  5. Day 5

    Labrang to Xining

    The drive to Xining takes you through grasslands where you'll see Tibetan villages along the way. You'll stop in Tongren to check out Rongwo Monastery, a well-known Tibetan temple in Qinghai Province, before heading to your hotel for the night.

  6. Day 6

    Xining to Zhangye

    Start by visiting Kumbum, one of the six largest Tibetan monasteries, to see well-preserved relics, colorful statues, and intricate yak butter carvings. This is the birthplace of Tsongkhapa, founder of the Yellow Hat Sect. Later, catch a 2-hour bullet train to Zhangye and transfer to Danxia town.

    Zhangye to Jiayuguan

    Turpan

    Kashgar

    With a local guide, explore Kashgar starting at Apa Hoja Mausoleum from 1640, featuring distinctive Uyghur architecture with blue tiles, domes, and minarets. Wander the old town's historic shops, workshops, restaurants, bakeries, and tea houses. Check out Handicraft Street for traditional music instruments and bronze vessels. Try local snacks like Nang bread, grilled eggs, and dried fruits. Visit Id Ghar Mosque (Xinjiang's largest), remembering to wear long pants and cover shoulders if you're a woman. If it's Sunday, also visit the Animal Bazaar near the airport.

    The trips was what I went for and got. The ships staff were great and tried to make me comfortable especially Cathy, the ship's officer who bought me the daily cruise guide and took me through it. Although I spoke little to no Chinese only using my translator she spoke to me in English and helped me with everything I needed.

    Unfortunately one day less on the river than stated when booking. Good facilities; spacious, clean cabin. Spacious upper deck. Very good organization of the interesting excursions. The trip through the three gorges was really great, although the constant soundtrack from the commentator, who spoke only mediocre English, would have been dispensable. The food was varied and of excellent quality. Overall very good price/performance ratio
