If you choose to book your own accommodation, please remember to be within walking distance of the pick up points mentioned above and let us know in advance where you are staying.

Could you please let me know whether a checked-in bag is allowed, or if only a cabin bag is permitted? I could not find any information regarding the luggage allowance for the trip.

Is this an active trip? Are the routes through natural areas? How many kilometers do you walk per day? I'm worried it's a trip on the bus constantly.

Yes, our tours are more active and are designed in a way that allows us to spend as much time off the bus as possible doing hiking, walking, swimming and exploring. The hikes we do are usually anywhere between 1 to 3 hours long. However, Scotland is bigger than people expect so naturally there is still some time on the bus. The longest continuous drive you will have on the trip is about 1.5-2 hours and it is in the beginning of the trip when you need to leave Edinburgh to get to the Highlands and same again when you are leaving the Highlands to get back to Edinburgh.

One of the highlights of the trip was undoubtedly our tour guide, Neil. His knowledge of Scottish history, local culture, and folklore added tremendous value to the journey. More importantly, he was approachable, engaging, and genuinely passionate about ensuring everyone had a memorable experience. His storytelling brought many of the places to life and made the long bus drives enjoyable. The hostel accommodation throughout the tour was also excellent. As a backpacker, I found the facilities comfortable, clean, and suited to travellers looking for a budget trip. The scenery itself was simply breathtaking. The landscapes at the Isle of Skye, the mystery surrounding Loch Ness, the charm of Inverness, and the coastal beauty of Oban made every day feel special. Scotland is truly a destination for those who enjoy nature, history, and adventure. My only criticism is that I wished we had more time at several of the locations. While the itinerary covered many incredible places, some stops felt a little rushed and left me wanting to explore further. A slightly slower pace would have made the experience even better. Take this tour! The ideal length of time. I had as much fun on the bus as I did walking the sites. Accommodations were clean, well-organized and spacious. Highlights for me were hiking up to the Old Man of Storr, the Gorge, the ferry ride and our night in Oban where we joined in a Ceilidh dance night (might not be an option for all travelers depending on tour schedule). We had Mark (newest MaccyB team member) as our guide for the first 3.5 days and Branka for the remaining 1.5 days. They both oozed passion for, and knowledge of, Scotland as well as connection with travelers. Their energy is infectious and their music sensibility is off the charts! :D Their presence amplified the tour experience. The reason this specific tour was appealing was because of it's focus on being in the outdoors. The schedule was well-timed with balanced intervals on the bus and exploring. The staff truly embody their commitment to building a community between the travelers on the tour. The stories were endless, the vistas were breathtaking and the memories everlasting!Show more

  Some places we visit are really remote and you would not be able to stay on the bus, so if the weather was poor, you might be stuck waiting up to 3 hours for the rest of the tour participants to return from the hikes. We highly recommend looking at other tour companies.

  There isn't really anything walking distance close to the Lochside Hostel as it is rather remote, however, you could book something in the area of Drumnadrochit as that is where the driver stays overnight and they would be able to pick you up from there. It also has a lot more options for food as there are a few restaurants and pubs in that area.

  For accommodation on Skye, there is the Saucy Mary Lodge or the Kings Arms Hotel that are nearby and offer private accommodation. Regarding the meals, there is 2 pubs, a restaurant and even an inidan restaurant located in the village of Kyleakin or just outside (still walking distance)

  Both hikes would take 2-3 hours depending on your fitness levels. You are correct that we wouldn't have time to do a full 4 hour loop. These are the same as the 5-day tour. There is just more time spend doing pit stops and going to Oban on the 4th night of the 5-day for a night out and a ceilidh dance.

  We cannot advise whether the hikes would be manageable for you. Only you can decide this. We do not know much about your husband's condition. The hikes are moderate with uneven terrain. The weather is unpredictable on Skye all year round. If you do not feel confident that your husband will be capable we would advise that you opt for a less adventurous tour. It is really up to you and your doctor and what you think is safe. We advise on our website that anyone with heart conditions or poor mobility should not join and we cannot accept responsibility for any incidents.
