Itinerary
- Day 1
Paro to Thimphu
Your DrukAir flight brings you into Bhutan and a guide meets you at the airport. From there, you'll drive to Thimphu and get settled at your hotel. In the afternoon, head to Kuensel Phodrang to see the tallest Buddha statue with sweeping views across Thimphu Valley. Then you'll check out Craft Bazaar to look through traditional Bhutanese handicrafts before finishing at Takin Preserve to see the country's national animal up close.

Thimphu
After breakfast, you'll spend the day exploring Thimphu's cultural side. Start at Gagyel Lhundrup Weaving Centre to watch traditional hand-woven textiles being made, then go to the Royal Textile Museum to see antique pieces. Next, you'll visit the Institute for Zorig Chusum where students learn the 13 traditional arts and crafts of Bhutan. Later in the day, wander through the Weekend Market to connect with locals, catch traditional archery tournaments at the national sports venue, and wrap up at Tashichhoe Dzong, the fortress that houses government offices and the king's residence.

Thimphu to Punakha
After breakfast, you'll travel toward Punakha, crossing Dochula Pass at 3,140m/10,300ft where Himalayan views stretch out in every direction. You'll pass by 108 chortens built by the Queen Mother, then stop at Druk Wangyal Lhakhang monastery to see murals depicting important royal events. Grab lunch in Metsina village, then visit Chhimi Lhakhang, the fertility shrine monastery. Before evening, you'll explore Punakha Dzong from 1637 with its exceptional woodwork, and take a walk through Rinchengang and Lobesa villages to meet locals.

- Day 4
Punakha
After breakfast, you'll hike to Khamsum Yuelley Namgel Chorten where views open up across the Mo Chhu and toward Gasa peaks. Following lunch, you'll cross a 200-meter suspension bridge and hike through Dompala hills to reach Limbukha village, known for growing Bhutan's red rice. The 2.5-hour climb takes you through chirpine forests with great views of the Dzong and surrounding rivers as you go.

Punakha to Paro
After breakfast, you'll head to Paro. Along the way, you'll cross the famous iron chain suspension bridge to visit Tamchog Lhakhang monastery from the 13th century, built by Tibetan saint Thangthong Gyalpo. You'll stop at a viewpoint to see Paro International Airport, Bhutan's only international gateway. Once you check into your hotel, you'll visit Paro Dzong for the festival and spend time walking through town browsing local handicraft stores.

- Day 6
Paro
After breakfast, you'll hike up to Taktsang Monastery, also called Tiger's Nest, which takes about 1 to 1.5 hours to reach the viewpoint with spectacular cliff-side views. After resting at the cafeteria, you'll continue another hour to the monastery itself, originally established in 1692 where Guru Rinpoche meditated in the 8th century. Heading back down takes you to lunch, then you'll visit Drukgyel Dzong fortress with its defensive ruins. You'll finish by exploring traditional Bhutanese farm houses in Paro Valley, built from mud and stone without any nails.
