Yinchuan
Start the morning at Ningxia Museum learning about the region's history through various relics and artifacts. After that, drive out to Western Xia Mausoleum to see the ancient tombs from the Western Xia kingdom. By evening, you'll head to Helan Mount to check out the prehistoric rock paintings carved into the mountainside.

Yinchuan to Zhongwei
After breakfast, you'll drive about 2 hours to Zhongwei. Once there, spend time at Shapotou where the Yellow River meets the Tengger Desert. The landscape here is pretty distinctive with sand dunes right next to the river, giving you views of both desert and water in one spot.

Zhongwei to Yellow River Stone Forest
Drive for 3 hours to Yongtai Old City, a former Ming Dynasty fortress where people still live today. The locals call it Turtle City because of how its shape looks from above. Later, you'll visit Yellow River Stone Forest to see the unusual clay formations that line the riverbank.
