Itinerary
- Day 1
Bucharest to Sibieu
You'll meet your guide at 9:00 AM in Bucharest for a panoramic drive covering Parliament Palace, Revolution Square, Athenaeum, and the Royal Palace. From there, the route heads into the Carpathian Mountains toward Transylvania, stopping at the 14th-century Cozia Monastery along the way. Once you arrive in Sibiu, there's a walking tour through the medieval Old District. Later in the afternoon, head out to a village outside town for a horse-drawn wagon ride and homemade dinner, then settle in at a local guesthouse for the night.

- Day 2
Sibiel to Cluj Napoca
This morning after breakfast, you'll drive to Hunedoara to see Corvin's Castle, a massive 15th-century fortress and Romania's largest medieval castle. Next stop is Alba Iulia, where you'll walk through a historic city with ancient Roman ruins and visit the Orthodox Cathedral, Catholic Cathedral, and the Vauban-style fortification walls. The day finishes in Cluj Napoca where you'll stay at Napoca Hotel.

- Day 3
Cluj Napoca to Maramures
After breakfast, head north into Maramures, the region known for wooden churches and traditional culture. You'll start at the UNESCO-listed Surdesti wooden church from 1766, which stands 54 metres tall and is Europe's tallest old wooden church. Check out Desesti wooden church next, then spend time with local craftspeople including traditional weavers, wood carvers, and artisans working at water mills. Barsana Monastery gives you a look at wooden monastery architecture. In the afternoon, visit Botiza village to see a local household and sheep yard (seasonal availability). You'll have dinner and stay overnight at a local pension.

Maramures Region
After breakfast, continue through Maramures to visit Sapanta Merry Cemetery, a UNESCO site famous for colorful tombstones decorated with humorous poems. See the Sapanta Peri wooden church at 75 metres, the highest wooden church in the world. Drive through Sighet, the largest town in the region. The afternoon brings you to the Maramures Woman Museum in Dragomiresti, where you'll see an impressive carved wooden gate and learn about traditional gate symbols. Stop at Bogdan Voda Wooden Church from the early 18th century to view its beautiful wooden frescoes. Head back to Botiza for leisure time to relax or walk around the village, then have dinner and stay at a local pension.

- Day 5
Maramures to Bucovina
After breakfast, cross the Carpathian Mountains heading northeast toward Bucovina, known for its painted monasteries. The drive offers mountain views throughout. You'll pass Ciocanesti, a scenic village famous for decorated houses and painted egg traditions. Tour painted monasteries from the 15th and 16th centuries with their original frescoes inside and out. Moldovita Monastery, built in 1532, shows fortress-like design with UNESCO protection. Sucevita Monastery follows, featuring towers, buttresses, and watch roads as the most elaborate painted monastery. Also included are a painted eggs museum and workshop plus a pottery center in Marginea. Stay overnight at a 4-star pension like Casa Humor or Bucovina Lodge.

- Day 6
Bucovina to Sighisoara
This morning after breakfast, visit Voronet Monastery, founded in 1488 by Stephen the Great and UNESCO-protected for its original frescoes with blue backgrounds and an impressive Last Judgment representation. Cross back through the Carpathian Mountains into Transylvania, driving past the Bicaz Gorges and Red Lake. End the day in Sighisoara and stay overnight at Sighisoara Hotel or a similar property in the historic walled town.

- Day 7
Sighisoara to Brasov
After breakfast, take a walking tour of medieval Sighisoara, a UNESCO site from the 13th century built by German Saxon settlers and considered one of Europe's best-preserved medieval towns. Drive through charming Transylvanian villages to reach Viscri, an authentic village with traditional houses. Visit Viscri Fortified Church, a UNESCO site and the oldest building there with fortifications and a museum, then walk village streets to see local handmade products. Continue to Prejmer Fortified Church from the 13th century, a unique combination of defensive and religious design. In the afternoon, walk through medieval Brasov city center and see Council Square, Black Church, White and Black Towers, Weaver's Bastion, and Ecaterina's Gate. Stay overnight at Bella Muzica Hotel or similar in the Old Town.

- Day 8
Brasov to Bucharest
After breakfast, visit Bran Castle, an impressive 14th-century Gothic fortress built to control access to Transylvania. Continue to Sinaia to see Peles Castle, the former summer residence of the Romanian royal family. The tour ends in Bucharest with drop-off around 4:00 PM at either the airport or your hotel.
