Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Arrival in Whitehorse

    Your guide meets you at Whitehorse airport and takes you to your hotel. Once you've checked in and had a chance to freshen up, your guide will walk through what you'll be doing over the next seven days and answer any questions you have about the itinerary.

  2. Day 2

    Whitehorse City Tour & Wildlife Preserve

    You'll start exploring Whitehorse with a city tour that includes the historic paddle steamer SS Klondike and Miles Canyon along the Yukon River. Then you'll head to Yukon Wildlife Preserve for a hike where you can see northern animal species up close. By evening, you'll relax and soak at Takhini Hot Springs.

  3. Day 3

    Alaska Highway to Kluane National Park & Haines Junction

    Heading westbound on the Alaska Highway, keep your eyes open for wildlife as you travel toward Kluane National Park, which contains the world's largest non-polar ice field. You'll stop at the visitor centre to learn about the park, then drive to Kluane Lake to look for Dall sheep on Sheep Mountain. The unique geological phenomenon at Slims River is worth seeing as well.

  4. Day 4

    Haines Road to Haines, Alaska

    The scenic Haines Road takes you from Haines Junction southward toward Haines, Alaska with several stops along the way. You'll see Million Dollar Falls and multiple glaciers as you drive this beautiful route. After checking into your hotel in Haines, you'll prepare for the wildlife spotting that starts tomorrow, particularly looking for grizzly bears and bald eagles.

  5. Day 5

    Grizzly & Wildlife Observation

    Get up early for the best chance of seeing grizzlies catching salmon and bald eagles hunting. You'll spend most of the day at different observation points around the area. Bring patience, batteries fully charged, and a good telephoto lens so you're ready for whatever wildlife appears.

  6. Day 6

    Wildlife Observation & Optional Juneau Day Trip

    This day is for more wildlife watching in the same area. If you prefer, there's an optional trip to Juneau, Alaska's capital and the only US state capital you can't reach by road. You'd take a small passenger ferry through the Inside Passage, spend about two hours in Juneau, and visit Mendenhall Glacier before heading back.

  7. Day 7

    Haines to Whitehorse via Skagway & South Klondike Highway

    You'll take the ferry from Haines to Skagway, then drive back to Whitehorse via the South Klondike Highway. Along this route, you'll pass White Pass, Carcross, the Carcross Desert which holds the title of world's smallest desert, and the turquoise waters of Emerald Lake. Keep watching for wildlife throughout. That evening, you'll have a closing dinner in Whitehorse where everyone shares photos and talks about the trip.
