Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Edinburgh to Islay

You'll leave Edinburgh heading north into the Highlands, stopping in Callander for coffee and a break before the drive gets going. From there the route takes you through mountain scenery and past Loch Awe into Argyllshire. By midday you'll reach Oban, a Victorian seaside town where you can do a distillery tour and tasting, then grab lunch at one of the seafood restaurants the town's known for. After lunch, head inland to Kilmartin Glen to see the neolithic monuments and historic sites scattered across the landscape. Later in the afternoon you'll drive down the Kintyre Peninsula to Kennacraig where you'll board the evening ferry to Islay. The crossing takes about two hours and you'll see Gigha, Jura, and the islands around you. There's a bar on the ferry where you can relax and have dinner before arriving at Port Askaig. From there it's a short drive to Bowmore for your four-night stay.

    Islay

Over these 3 days, you'll explore Islay with a guide, walking through empty beaches and whitewashed villages. The ancient Kildalton Cross and medieval strongholds dot the island, and you'll visit them throughout your time here. Whisky is central to the experience, so you'll stop at Lagavulin, Laphroaig, Ardbeg, Kilchoman, Bunnahabhain, Caol Ila, Ardnahoe, Bowmore, and Bruichladdich. Each distillery offers its own character and tasting opportunities. You'll have fresh local seafood for meals and get a real sense of traditional island culture and the wildlife that calls Islay home.

Customer Reviews

  • 5 Day Ultimate Islay Whisky Tour reviewer 1
    · April 17th, 2020
I was excited to go on this tour. The booking wasn't cheap at around $2K, but I knew the experience would be worth it. Especially with their stellar reviews. As I watched the COVID-19 epidemic play out, it obviously jeopardized the entire trip. I read their cancellation policy and was still within the window to cancel for a full refund. However, I didn't want to cancel the booking if there was still a chance I could attend. I was ensured through email correspondence a full refund would be given if I cancelled (see pictures). When it became apparent the trip wouldn't happen, I followed up on our agreement for a refund in full. They didn't respond for a few days. After following up again, they told me they were not liable for any refund. I feel disappointed by this type of business behavior. I understand times are difficult, but that does not excuse lying to me and withholding funds I desperately need. I hope this email warns others to be careful of doing business with them.
