Itinerary
- Day 1
Edinburgh to Islay
You'll leave Edinburgh heading north into the Highlands, stopping in Callander for coffee and a break before the drive gets going. From there the route takes you through mountain scenery and past Loch Awe into Argyllshire. By midday you'll reach Oban, a Victorian seaside town where you can do a distillery tour and tasting, then grab lunch at one of the seafood restaurants the town's known for. After lunch, head inland to Kilmartin Glen to see the neolithic monuments and historic sites scattered across the landscape. Later in the afternoon you'll drive down the Kintyre Peninsula to Kennacraig where you'll board the evening ferry to Islay. The crossing takes about two hours and you'll see Gigha, Jura, and the islands around you. There's a bar on the ferry where you can relax and have dinner before arriving at Port Askaig.
