Groups are about 15-20 people. Group tours run daily so you will simply join the group for that day. There is not 1 tour group for the entire trip. The trip is medium strenuous with the exception of Taquile Island on Lake Titicaca. That is a very steep hike to the town. You can stay on the boat if you want or avoid this tour and simply just go to Uros Islands. The beginning of Machu Picchu tour is steep but then it levels off after 15 min. Machu Picchu is 9000 ft, Cusco is 11,000 ft, Puno is 13,000 ft elevation. If you follow these guidelines you will acclimate to Cusco & Puno's altitude the elevation in 24 hrs. Once you get sick it is too late and you will have to stay in bed for a day. - it takes about 24 hrs to acclimate to 3300 meters (11,000 ft) - stay hydrated - drink the complimentary coca tea provided by your hotel - breathe thoughtfully & slowly inflating lowest part of abdomen first - first 24 hrs eat lightly, avoid overeating, breathe, stay hydrated, rest, don't exert yourself and drink the coca tea - avoid bronchitis & flu too by covering head, ears & throat when out after dark in the cold, damp mountain air - after 6PM nylon shirt, wool sweater, fleece & jacket with covered ears & throat - Pack to dress in layers to be worn together & separately.
