Itinerary
- Day 1
Arrival in Dakar
You'll land at Blaise Diagne International Airport and handle customs and immigration. From there, a private car takes you to your hotel in Dakar where you'll spend your first night settling in.

Gorée Island - Pink Lake
After breakfast, you'll take a city tour through Dakar to get your bearings. Then it's off to Goree Island by ferry to visit the historic slave house and walk around the island. Later you head to Pink Lake, where you can check out the salt works and ride across the sand dunes on a four-wheel vehicle. If you're interested, the lake's salt content lets you float without effort. You'll return to Dakar for the evening.

- Day 3
Toubacouta
You start with breakfast and travel toward Saloum, stopping in Kaolack along the way. This city in west central Senegal has an old market showing Sudanese architecture where traders from surrounding regions sell everything from textiles to spices. The city was historically crucial for the groundnut trade. Grab lunch at a local spot, then continue on to Toubacouta and check into your lodge within Fathala Reserve.

Landmarks Kaolack Market Fathala Wildlife Reserve - Day 4
Fathala Wildlife Reserve
The morning begins before dawn with a guided game drive through open terrain as the sun rises. You'll spot Derby Eland herds, various antelope, giraffes, rhinos, and buffalo moving through the reserve. Stop at a waterhole for coffee and snacks while watching the landscape light up. In the afternoon, trade the vehicle for canoes and paddle through the Saloum mangrove channels, seeing pelicans, cormorants, and other water birds in their natural habitat.

- Day 5
Joal - Fadiouth - Saly
After breakfast, you travel to Saly with stops to meet local residents along the way. You'll visit Joal, birthplace of Senegal's first president and poet Leopold Senghor, including his childhood home. Then it's on to Fadiouth, an island built entirely from shells and connected by a wooden bridge. This animistic community has unique grain storage houses on stilts and a cemetery where Catholics and Muslims are buried together. Lunch happens in Joal before you arrive at your beachfront hotel in Saly for check-in.

Somone Lagoon Reserve
You head to Somone village and spend the day exploring Somone Lagoon Natural Reserve by dugout canoe. This protected area covers over 7,000 hectares and hosts year-round bird populations including herons, pelicans, pink flamingos, egrets, and spatulas nesting between mangrove stands and sandbars. You'll paddle through the reserve and walk along the shoreline. Back at your hotel, you'll have dinner and settle in for the night.

Saly
Breakfast is at your hotel, and the day is yours to relax on the beach. There's an optional jet-ski excursion if you want to speed along the coast for some adrenaline. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Departure from Dakar
