- Day 1
Santa Cruz
Airport pickup gets you to your hotel for the welcome briefing, then you're free to walk around Santa Cruz for the rest of the day. The coastal town has nice views and a town square worth checking out. Try local food like espetada and bolo do caco whenever you're hungry, so you can eat at your own pace.

- Day 2
Ponta de São Lourenço
After breakfast, head to Ponta de São Lourenço on the island's eastern tip. The hike takes you through volcanic basalt formations and cliffs along the Atlantic, with wide ocean views the whole way. Watch for rare birdlife like Berthelot's pipit and canary, and if you're lucky you might spot a Mediterranean monk seal. By evening you're back at your accommodation to rest up.

Levada do Furado - Portela
Get transferred to Ribeiro Frio village and walk the historic Levada do Furado, one of the island's oldest water channels. You'll go through the Laurissilva forest, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with dramatic valleys and the distinctive Penha d'Água rock visible. Later on the Levada da Serra do Faial at 860m elevation, then you descend to the Portela viewpoint before heading back.

Boca do Risco - Porto da Cruz
Transfer to Machico and hike along the Levada do Caníçal past terraced agricultural fields. The route climbs gently to Boca do Risco at 322m where you get panoramic views of the northern cliffs and valley below. Continue at about 300m elevation along coastal cliffs with ocean views, finishing in Porto da Cruz before transfer back to your accommodation.

Pico Ruivo
Head to Achada da Teixeira for one of Madeira's toughest hikes up to Pico Ruivo, the highest peak on the island. The route involves steep climbs and descents moving through two different ecosystems, including ancient Laurissilva forest and volcanic terrain. Weather permitting, you'll get panoramic views from the central mountain area westward toward Encumeada Valley.

Cabo Girão - Funchal
Walk the Levada do Norte, one of the island's major water channels, heading to just below Cabo Girão, Europe's highest headland. You'll see views of Câmara de Lobos and Campanaário, plus green fields and plantations. At Cabo Girão check out the Fajãs do Rancho terraced fields and sea views. Later in Funchal's center, see the cathedral, walk the squares, and try espetada, banana cake, or poncha drinks.

This day is yours to explore Funchal however you like. Wander the cobbled historic streets, visit the busy Mercado dos Lavradores market, or check out the botanical gardens. The traditional Monte wicker sledge ride is popular if you want that experience, gliding down steep streets in a hand-woven basket. The cathedral, seafront promenade, and restaurants with local food are all options.
