- Day 1
Ponte de Lima
You'll arrive in Ponte de Lima and check into your hotel, where you get a welcome pack with all the details for your walking vacation. The rest of the day is open for you to wander around at your own pace. The International Garden Festival and Arnado Park are worth checking out, along with the Gothic church and the Roman bridge. Riverside walks let you get a feel for the town, and the medieval center has plenty of shops and cafés to explore. Pick any local restaurant for dinner and try some regional cuisine paired with Vinho Verde wine.

- Day 2
Castro Laboreiro
After breakfast, your driver picks you up from the hotel and takes you to Castro Laboreiro. Once you drop off your bags, you head out on a hike through rugged hills with distinctive rock formations. The route goes through wooded areas to an old bridge where you can wade in the water, then climbs steadily to a plateau with smooth granite rocks and long views across valleys and ridges. The trail brings you back to Castro Laboreiro by day's end.

Castro Laboreiro to Peneda
Starting from your hotel, you walk through the village and cross wild, rocky highlands with great views of the surrounding mountains toward Lamas do Mouro Park Gate. From there, the trail enters a forest and follows old stone paths toward the sanctuary at Peneda. These paths were historically used by pilgrims, so you'll be walking routes with real history behind them.

Castro Laboreiro to Lindoso
A short transfer takes you from Castro Laboreiro to start a walk down the valley from Peneda sanctuary along a centuries-old pilgrimage route. Dramatic mountain landscapes and huge rock faces line the way as you follow the Peneda River through the small village of Tibo and down to where two rivers meet at the Spanish border. From Várzea, a cobbled road takes you beside a causeway over the River Lima to Lindoso, where the castle shows the town's former importance. You'll stay overnight in a traditional village house with period tools and embroidery.

Lindoso to Cidadelhe
Starting in Lindoso's old streets, you head into a forest and follow a dirt road climbing gently uphill with views of the Soajo Mountains. The descent offers even better views as you make your way to Cidadelhe, roughly 15.5 km total. If that's enough walking for one day, take a cab back. Otherwise, you can complete the full loop and return to Lindoso on foot.

Lindoso to Viana do Castelo
A drive takes you from Lindoso to Avelar, a small shepherd village in the Soajo Mountains. The steep start opens to views of Peneda and Soajo peaks, valleys, and the Ramiscal Valley. You'll see local heritage sites like wolf knitting demonstrations and shepherds' shelters. By Mezio Park Gate, the trail eases and you find pools in clear river water. The path continues through forests and mountain meadows to Soajo, where you meet your transfer to Viana do Castelo. Spend the evening exploring the medieval town center.

Viana do Castelo to Porto
Part of the morning is for checking out Viana do Castelo's sights like the Basilica of Santa Luzia, the Costume Museum, and the Gil Eanes hospital ship. After that, take the train or bus to Porto for the final stop. The rest of the day is yours to use however you want. Wander the historic streets, pick up souvenirs, enjoy the views, or do a port wine tour and tasting in Vila Nova da Gaia. Find a restaurant for dinner, whether fine dining or something more traditional.
