Itinerary
- Day 1
Ponte de Lima
You'll arrive in Ponte de Lima and get settled at your hotel. After picking up your welcome pack, the rest of the day is yours to explore. The medieval town center is worth a wander, and you can see the Roman bridge or take a walk along the riverside. If gardens interest you, the International Garden Festival is also in town. By evening, head to one of the local restaurants for dinner.

- Day 2
Castro Laboreiro
After breakfast your driver takes you to Castro Laboreiro where you'll drop off luggage before starting a circular hike. The trail winds through wooded areas and eventually reaches an old bridge with a chance to cool off in clear water. From there it climbs to a plateau with granite rocks and wide valley views before heading back to the village. Plan on about 4 to 5 hours depending on your pace.

Landmarks Castro Laboreiro - Day 3
Castro Laboreiro to Peneda
Starting from your hotel, you'll hike through the village and onto wild, rocky highlands with good mountain views. The route takes you toward Lamas do Mouro Park Gate before entering the forest and following old stone paths built by pilgrims centuries ago. These paths lead to the Peneda sanctuary, so you're basically walking a route with real history underneath your feet.

- Day 4
Peneda to Lindoso
After a short transfer, you'll walk down from Peneda sanctuary on an old pilgrimage route that goes through dramatic mountain scenery and massive rock faces. The path follows the Peneda River through Tibo village to where two rivers meet at the Spain border. Then you'll walk a cobbled road next to a causeway over the River Lima to Lindoso, where a castle sits as a reminder of the town's past importance. You'll stay overnight in a restored traditional village house.

- Day 5
Lindoso
You'll walk through Lindoso's old streets into a forest, then take a dirt road that climbs gently with views of the Soajo Mountains. The descent has even better views as you head toward Cidadelhe. The full hike is 15.5 km, but you can take a cab partway back if you need a break. Or stick around and complete the full loop back to Lindoso if you're feeling good.

Avelar to Soajo to Viana do Castelo
A drive takes you from Lindoso to Avelar, a small shepherd's village in the Soajo Mountains. You'll start with a steep climb that rewards you with views of peaks, valleys, and the Ramiscal Valley. Along the way you'll see traditional wolf knitting and shepherds' shelters. The trail gets easier as you descend to Mezio Park Gate where there are pools in clear river water. After that you'll walk through mixed forests and mountain meadows to reach Soajo, then transfer to Viana do Castelo for the evening.

- Day 7
Viana do Castelo to Porto
Today you can split time between Viana do Castelo and Porto. In Viana do Castelo check out the medieval center, the Basilica of Santa Luzia, the Costume Museum, or the Gil Eanes hospital ship. When you're ready, take the train or bus to Porto. There you can walk the historic streets, shop around, check out views, or do a port wine tour and tasting in Vila Nova da Gaia. Plenty of restaurant options for your final meal.
