    Asked on September 21st, 2025

Are any of the areas in the itinerary unsafe? What is it like on the sleeper trains? I will be purchasing a singles supplement because I function best when allowed my own space. I realize this is not possible on the trains and I can deal with that. But can you tell me more about the ammenities? I don't really enjoy tour groups but will do this one since I don't know the area. Is it possible for me to do my own thing? For example, if there is a group dinner, am I allowed to go off on my own instead? What is the atmosphere like on the bus? I had a tour guide once who insisted on things like group exercises and ice breakers and I found it rather draining. How hot does it get there during the summer?

    • Stray AsiaOperatorWritten September 2025

All the areas we visit are considered very safe to travel to. We would never include a place that was deemed unsafe or had a negative experience attached to it as safety of our travellers is a big priority for us! It's now possible to use the single supplement on the overnight train in Vietnam. The Thailand train doesn't have this option as the beds run along the carriage with the aisle in the middle and curtains providing privacy. There are cafeteria carriages on both overnight trains where you can sit to eat, additionally attendants come through the carriages selling snacks and drinks. Each carriage has toilets at both ends and benchtop sinks for freshening up. There are no shower facilities available. You are free to participate in group activities and meals or do your own thing, we only ask that you keep your Guide updated on your movements so they aren't looking for you and know that you are safe, and that you turn up on time when the group is departing for the next destination. The atmosphere on the bus varies with every group, your Guides will be focused on ensuring the trip runs smoothly, along with providing passengers with local, cultural and historical information that enhances their overall enjoyment of the trip. When travelling between destinations you are free to participate in conversation or put your headphones on and listen to music or just catch up on some sleep. If you're looking to travel in June the wet season will be just starting, that means likely daily thunder storms in the afternoon, rising humidity and temps in the range of 22-36c. The rain storms tend to be short and don't really stop you from doing things. The countryside is very lush and emerald green at this time of year.

I would very much like to opt in for a single supplement whenever available. I experienced a wet season when I went to Japan. It was rainy some days but nothing an umbrella didn't fix. Is it similar in Indochina or more severe?

    • Stray AsiaOperatorWritten September 2025

We can book the single supplement for you if you decide to proceed with your booking. Regarding rainy season, yes it's much similar to what you describe. It's mostly fine weather, with perhaps 2-3 hours rain in the mid-afternoon which breaks the humidity nicely.
