Departure to Taipei
Your flight to Taipei takes off today.
- Day 2
Taipei
Your tour guide meets you and you'll start seeing Taipei's main sights. Check out the National Palace Museum for Chinese art, then take the elevator up Taipei 101 (508 meters high) for views across the city. After a quick stop at the Presidential Palace, head to the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall Park where guards perform their changing ceremony. Spend the evening relaxing and taking in your first impressions of the city.

Taipei to Taroko Gorge
The drive through Yilan takes you past rainforest and steep mountain roads, including a 13-kilometer tunnel. At a tea plantation you'll see how tea goes from plant to fermented leaf. Then see Chinshui Cliff's ocean views and stop at the Taroko Visitor Center to learn about the national park. You'll pass waterfalls, tunnels and suspension bridges on the way to your hotel, which sits surrounded by green mountains.

- Day 4
Taroko Gorge to Hualien
After breakfast, hike to Xiangde Temple within Taroko's marble gorges. By midday you'll leave for Hualien and arrive at Qixingtan beach on the east coast. End the day at Chi-An-Chinghisu Temple and Pine Garden, a restored colonial area filled with old pine trees.

Hualien to Taitung
Tour the old sugar factory in Hualien, now an open-air museum showing production equipment and worker history from before it closed in 2002. On the way to Taitung, see the rocky coast at Shitiping and the rock formations at Sanxiantai. Learn about Amis tribe culture at the Amis Folk Center.

Taitung to Kaohsiung
Stop at Duoliang railroad station for Pacific Ocean views, then continue to Kenting National Park where tropical plants and rock formations line the coast. Check out Donggang fish market to sample fresh seafood, and arrive in Kaohsiung with time to settle in.

Kaohsiung to Tainan
At Lotus Lake, learn how the Tiger and Dragon Pagoda explains the Chinese calendar, then cross a bridge to the Spring and Autumn Pavilion. Eat vegetarian lunch at Foguanshan Monastery before visiting Buddha Memorial Center. Later, travel to Tainan's Anping district where you'll learn about Dutch colonial history and the old fort.

Tainan to Sun Moon Lake
Leave Tainan and see the Temple of Confucius and Chikan Tower, then head to Sun Moon Lake (Taiwan's largest lake). From your hotel, walk to Ita Thao Street, one of the Thao people's oldest settlements, where your guide shares the tribe's history and traditions. Small restaurants line the street if you want to try local food.

Sun Moon Lake to Taipei
At Sun Moon Lake, see Wen Wu Temple with its palace-like structure, then hike to Tse En Pagoda. Climb the nine-story spiral staircase for views across the lake and mountains. Take a bus to the old harbor town of Lukang, walk through narrow streets to Longshan Temple (one of Taiwan's finest Buddhist temples), then return to Taipei.

Taipei Departure
Spend the day at your own pace or take an optional tour of Taipei's surroundings. Yangmingshan National Park sits just outside the city with volcanic landscape, gorges and lakes. In Jiufen village, walk the old street and write wishes on lanterns. After a farewell dinner reflecting on the trip, head to the airport.
