Itinerary
- Day 1
Paro to Thimphu
You'll arrive at Paro International Airport where your private guide meets you with a traditional white scarf. From there, you stop at Tachog Temple on the opposite side of the Paro river, then head to Wangsisina nunnery to light 108 butter lamps. After that, you continue driving to Thimphu where you'll see the Buddha Dordenma statue at Kuenselphodrang and take in the traffic-light-free city before checking into your hotel for the night.

- Day 2
Thimphu to Punakha
Following breakfast, you head toward Punakha valley, Bhutan's ancient capital. The drive takes you up to Dochu La pass at 3,100 meters/10,170 feet where 108 Chortens and prayer flags line the ridge with views of Bhutan's highest peaks. You'll visit Sangchen Dorji Lhuendrup Nunnery, then spend the afternoon at Leki Wangmo Homestay experiencing traditional farm life with farm-to-table meals, butter tea, and a local cooking lesson. The day ends with a walk through Talo village.

Punakha
After breakfast, you walk through farmhouses and rice paddies in Sopsokha Village to reach Chimi Lhakhang, known as the Fertility Temple with its traditional phallus paintings. Later, you see the massive Punakha Dzong sitting at the junction of two rivers, where you'll learn it served as Bhutan's former capital and remains the winter residence of the central monk body. The afternoon includes a hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Temple near Nyzergang and a crossing of the 160-meter Pho Chhu Suspension Bridge for views back toward Punakha Dzong.

Punakha to Phobjikha Valley
You drive to Phobjikha Valley, also called Gangtey, which serves as the winter home for Black-Necked Cranes migrating from Tibet. The Gangtey Nature Trail hike starts at a Mani stone wall north of Gangtey Goenpa and winds through pine forests and bamboo, finishing at Khewa Lhakhang with valley views. You'll visit Gangtey Goemba monastery on its forested hillside, and there's the option to join morning or evening prayers, hoist prayer flags, make smoke offerings, or share dinner with monks.

Phobjikha Valley to Paro
This morning you participate in prayer and light butter lamps before driving to Paro. Once there, you visit the National Museum housed in Ta Dzong, a former watchtower that protected Paro Dzong, where you'll see ancient artifacts dating back to 4000 BCE. You have the evening free or can walk around Paro town to see its traditional Bhutanese buildings.

- Day 6
Paro
After a hearty breakfast, you tackle the Taktsang hike to Tiger's Nest Monastery, perched on a cliff at 3,120 meters/10,240 feet and one of Bhutan's most revered pilgrimage sites. Your guide explains how Guru Rinpoche arrived from Tibet in the 8th century on a tigress to meditate here for three months and introduce tantric Buddhism to Bhutan. Following the hike, you relax with a hot stone bath and try local archery before finishing with a farm house dinner.
