Itinerary
- Day 1
Cape Town
Start your day at the Nelson Mandela Gateway located at the V&A Waterfront, meeting at 8am for the ferry to Robben Island. You'll spend roughly 4 hours on the island walking through historical sites, including the prison cell where Nelson Mandela was held for 18 of his 27 years. Once you return by early afternoon, grab some lunch and walk around the Waterfront's shops. After that, head to the Bo-Kaap to see the colorful houses and check out the Malay Quarter along with the slave lodge museums. Wrap up the day with dinner at a local restaurant before returning to your hotel.

- Day 2
Cape Town to Johannesburg
After breakfast, head to the Castle of Good Hope to look around its hidden history, including prison cells, the governor's house, and the torture chamber. From there, drive toward Stellenbosch to a wine estate where you'll tour museums housed in an original 1740 wine cellar, learning about slavery history and the cultural roots of rural Cape music. If you're interested, wine tasting is available at Solms Delta. Later in the evening, fly to Johannesburg and check into an airport hotel for the night.

- Day 3
Johannesburg
Start at Constitution Hill Human Rights Precinct to explore the Old Fort, the Women's Jail, Number Four (where political prisoners including Mahatma Gandhi were held), and the Constitutional Court. Nelson Mandela was imprisoned here on two separate occasions, and a permanent exhibition honors him. By afternoon, head to the Apartheid Museum to understand how apartheid rose and eventually fell. You'll head back to your hotel from there.

Johannesburg
Head to Vilakazi Street to learn about the history of Nobel Peace Prize winners Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu. Next, visit the Hector Peterson Memorial and Museum, then walk through the Mandela House Museum. You'll learn about the 1976 Soweto uprising and see Regina Mundi church, which still bears marks from police shootings. Around lunch, try traditional food in Soweto. Later, visit the Voortrekker Monument to see marble friezes showing the Great Trek history and Afrikaner Boer culture. There's optional shopping at an African arts and crafts market if you're interested, with drop-off at your airport or hotel starting at 5pm.
