  We have spent 4 days tour in Sri Lanka with holiday lanka, our driver Namal was a nice person, he took us the places and explanted all about the attractions, his driving was safe and always on time, the hotel's rooms also clean and we had a nice breakfast, some hotels are out of the city but the location and the view was amazing.Show more

  We booked a nice holiday package for 4 days and 3 nights in Sri lanka with holiday lanka tour company, i am glad to say that me and my partner enjoyed this tour very much, our driver wije was a clam person who driven though the narrow roads very safely. Some hotels are outside of the city but the view was amazing, my advice for the other travelers to request the hotels list from the holiday lanka tour before the tour start.   Very bad experience. Driver barely talked or explained anything to us. In comparison we had another tour in Sri Lanka via a different company where the driver would constantly engage, help, and talk to us. I can't even say this driver was safe, he spent most of his time on his phone and would sometimes drive whilst checking and reading his notes without his eyes on the road or hands on the steering wheel. Most of the stops he made were complete and utter tourist traps. Again in comparison to the other driver we had in Sri Lanka, they actively told us what to watch out for and how to avoid tourist traps (e.g. don't take photos here, don't fall for this). This company however took us to a $60 "village experience". I normally don't mind paying such sums if they support the local economy however all this "experience" entailed was visiting 3 local Sri Lankans in 3 locations making bread, fishing etc. for 20 mins each whom then all asked for tips on top of the $60 we had already paid. I would perfectly happy to pay $30 and tip each of them another $30 but clearly the boss is pocketing everything as the locals have to resort to asking us for extra help. Shameful. I also think this tour package doesn't highlight or draw attention to how high the entrance fees are. Expect to pay out an extra $25 per person per attraction. For couple with 2 attractions per day this adds around an extra $100 per day on top of what you already pay. On top of this our driver pushed us to purchase tour guides around for around $20 per attraction which I later found out could be obtained for $5 for just as good a service. The so-called "elephant sanctuaries" also raise doubts as the elephants all appear deflated, defeated, and depressed, literally in chains. I'm not sure such tours are really ethical in this day and age. I would like to give zero stars but luckily one of the 3 star guest hotels we stayed at had an exceptional manager that really tried really hard to make our stay great e.g. cooking home cooked meals for us, talking to us about the local culture etc. This is more an endorsement for the guest house however rather than the tour company whom I suspect simply got lucky working with them, rather than the tour company actually providing a good service.Show more
