Itinerary
- Day 1
Islamabad to Chilas
You'll arrive at Islamabad Airport where your Rock Valley Tours guide meets you. From there, it's a 10-12 hour drive south toward Chilas along the Karakoram Highway, taking you through Mahnsarh, Besham, and across the Takok bridge. The road passes through dramatic mountain terrain with the Indus River gorge creating some of the most striking scenery on the route. After covering 400 km, you'll reach Chilas for the night. It's a long day but the landscape makes it worthwhile.

- Day 2
Chilas to Hunza
After breakfast, head north through the Indus River gorge following the ancient Silk Route with historic rock carvings visible along the way. You'll stop at Thalichi viewpoint where you can see Nanga Parbat at 8,125m, along with Rakaposhi at 7,788m and the Haramosh Range. The drive takes you to the 7th century Kargah Buddha carved directly into the rock. Then continue through Hunza Valley to Karimabad. During this stretch, you'll pass through the meeting point of the Karakoram, Himalayas, and Hindukush mountain ranges.

- Day 3
Karimabad
This day is yours to explore Karimabad at your own pace. In the morning, visit the 800-year-old Altit Fort which overlooks the ancient Silk Route and Karakoram Highway. Later, see the recently restored palace of the Mir of the Hunza Kingdom, a structure that also served as a fort during conflicts. In the afternoon, take a walk to Ultar Glacier. If you want more exploring, an optional Nagar Valley excursion is available.

- Day 4
Karimabad to Passu
Head into the Karakorams with a stop at Gulmit village, where the unclimbed Gulmit Tower rises above. You'll walk through village fields to see the polo ground and historic houses. After that, trek to Gulkin Glaciers and Borit Lake. Then drive 15 km to Passu, a village set against the dramatic Passu Cones with easy access to the Passu and Batura glaciers. You'll have time to wander around the village before settling in for the night.

Passu to Besham
Drive back south along the Karakoram Highway with the Hunza River alongside you and continuous Karakoram views throughout. You're heading toward Besham, where you'll spend the night on the banks of the Indus River.

Besham to Islamabad
Start early for an 8-hour drive back to Islamabad along the Karakoram Highway, with a lunch stop in Abbottabad. In Taxila, check out the ancient Buddhist Gandhara capital, one of the sub-continent's most important archaeological sites. Walk through the ruins of Sirkup city and the hilltop Julian monastery, then visit the museum with artifacts including gold and silver coins from Alexander the Great's time (326 BC). Back in Islamabad, visit Pakistan monuments and Faisal Mosque, then have dinner at Monal Restaurant before checking in at Serena Hotel.
