At this price point in PNG, there is no better value accommodation or tour. The road transfers are carried out in Toyota Coasters, the standard, and only, vehicle used for tours in the country. I'm not sure why the meals were rated as 2 stars, they were hearty, healthy, and copious. There is no gourmet dining in PNG, and certainly not on a trip of this style. Perhaps it was a lack of pizza and pasta....

    Asked on March 30th, 2026

I'm extremely interested in the Papua New Guinea Highlands and Goroka trip for September 2027. I'm an experienced traveller (aged 70) and, as a single person, always choose small group travel for my exotic destinations. So I am pleased to have found your trip. Now, I'm used to booking a long time in advance and paying a deposit, of course. But this trip is a year and a half away and you're asking me to give you over £2000 for all that length of time…50% deposit! That is a huge ask, given all the different eventualities that might occur in the meantime……and without any information about under what circumstances a deposit might be returned or forfeited……let alone a considerable amount of interest from the bank lost by me and gained by you. So, I was enquiring whether there is any possibility of reducing that deposit. Secondly, the other huge unknown (because the departure date is 18 months away) is the cost of the flights….and, indeed, the possible itineraries to get to PNG. I have looked online, but it is impossible to find details of flights beyond about 9-12 months in advance. So it is rather like jumping into the unknown, if I commit to the holiday and then find that the flights are going to cost a prohibitive amount of money…… I'd be grateful, therefore, if you were able to suggest, from previous clients' experience perhaps, a good/sensible way of getting to PNG from Heathrow.

Why is it that, when I go on the Indigo Safaris Website via Google, there's no mention of Papua New Guinea under 'Destinations'?. It seems the trip only appears on TourRadar…??!!

    • Indigo SafarisOperatorWritten March 2026

Because it is such a big destination, i gave it its own website, best of png.

    • Indigo SafarisOperatorWritten March 2026

I can't change the deposit conditions for one booking on Tour Radar, they are set for all of our tours. You have plenty of time, I only put a limited number of spaces available here, most of them we sell direct. I would send you a message when the trip is looking close to full, which i estimate would be around November, it is hard to say. Deposits are non-refundable, as are balance payments, which are due 60 days prior to travel at the latest, as we have to issue domestic flights. International flights come online 330 days before they operate. So you will have to wait until 330 days after the date of the last flight in your booking to see the prices. From Europe you can go through Manila or Singapore then take Air Niugini to Port Moresby most days of the week. There are also connections via Hong Kong and Guangzhou (three a week each), Tokyo, Honoraria and Nadi (twice a week) and Sydney (four a week). Or via Brisbane with Air Niugini or Qantas to Port Moresby at least daily on either airline. Air Niugini and Qantas also operate at least one flight a day on the Cairns-Port Moresby route. From the UK and Europe, Qatar often offers the cheapest flights to Port Moresby via Doha, Manila, or Singapore, with the last leg on Air Niugini. In January 2026, tickets started at 1100 GBP return. French clients got a China Southern Paris POM return for 1050 GBP two weeks ago. They are a good airline, decent spacing, and if you have a longish layover, they take you to a decent hotel near the airport free of charge. Quite a few clients split their journey with a stay in Singapore or the Philippines, and we can book the last leg on Air Niugini. From SIN it's 6 hours, MNL 5 hours. Air Niugini have an upgrade bidding system on their long hauls, you can usually upgrade to business on the SIN POM SIN route a couple of days before for around 300 GBP. It has a lie-flat bed and is a night flight. In economy class, we have the same rates and often better than online, and with better modification and cancellation conditions. For business class passengers, we often offer much better rates than you can find online or from your regular travel agent, saving you up to 700 GBP.

Their first reaction was to tell me of the online advice/warnings/concerns regarding safely and security, citing government website information about the potential dangers, the violence and the tribal disputes in certain parts of PNG. This, I must say, did worry me a little…but it was mostly aimed at individual travellers……and the caveat was there: USE A RELIABLE AND REPUTABLE COMPANY TO TRAVEL THERE. Which allayed my fears somewhat. Perhaps you could reply to some of these 'claims/reports', please, to reassure me that they should not be an issue??

    • Indigo SafarisOperatorWritten March 2026

In a nutshell, if I thought there ws any danger to my clients than them staying at home, do you think I would take them? The press, and keyboard travellers, are full of 5h1t. Particularly in Australia regarding PNG. Lots of Chinese whispers style horror stories told 20th hand. And government foreign office departments too. I have been the intended victim of attempted muggings in London in 2022 when i lived there still, in Nantes in France in the city centre, and had my laptop bag stolen from my feet at Barcelona airport without me realising it for 5 minutes, with a clever switcheroo. Nothing has happened to me in PNG in 15 years of extensive travel there. Of the many hundreds of clients i have facilitated travel to PNG for over 14 years, three have had cellphones stolen, from their back pockets in a large crowd, one of which i got back. Check out the Global Peace Index, which ranks countries from safest to most dangerous. N.B.: The USA is 132nd, PNG 115th. Note the number of popular tourist destinations ranked below PNG, e.g. India, Zimbabwe, Kenya, USA, Brazil, Thailand, the Philippines, Mexico, South Africa, Ethiopia. Last year, Egypt and the Philippines were below PNG too

Will this Goroka tour be compatible with the Sepik River tour? If not would you please direct me to the correct tours.

    Tour Details
    • Indigo SafarisOperatorWritten February 2026

This tour combines perfectly with our Sepik Adventure Tour, 21 to 27 September 2027. However, that tour is not listed on the Tour Radar platform, as I have no trouble filling it. The 2027 tour is not yet live on the website, but will be the same as the 2026 tour, just starting and ending a day earlier. I expect the price to be around 5% higher for 2027, it depends on how much the domestic flights that are included increase by.

      Crystal

      TravelerWritten February 2026

in your last message you said the Sepik trip is sept 21-27,2027 The goroka trip is Sept 13-22,2027. Are these dates correct? I want to be sure before I book with tour radar.

    • Indigo SafarisOperatorWritten February 2026

The Tour Radar Highlands Tribes Tour is a day longer than the one we sell directly, as it includes the Tuesday night (21st) in Goroka and an airport transfer on the 22nd. The version on our website ends on the 21st at POM airport. The SAT starts with the Tuesday night of the 21st in Port Moresby. If you booked the HTT on this platform, and the SAT with us directly, then I would take off the first night in Port Moresby from your SAT invoice.

2027 dates will be 13 to 21 September, and the Sepik Adventure Tour 21 to 27 September. However, we are not planning on putting the Sepik Adventure Tour on Tour Radar, it's a smaller group and we always fill it directly without needing to pay to go through a marketing platform.

    • Indigo SafarisOperatorWritten January 2026

Sorry, I forgot that there are pre and post nights on the Tour Radar package, dates are 12 to 22 September, and will be live on here in an hour or so.

Can you give me the price for a single traveller? I would like a single room, happy to pay single room supplement if required. I would like to book for 2027 especially for the Goroka Cultural Show. How much deposit would be required to book for 2027? I will have about seven weeks holiday time so can you recommend any additional trip I can combine with this?

    • Indigo SafarisOperatorWritten January 2026

I haven't set the 2027 prices yet, but you can see the single supplement on the Tour Radar website. It's around 450 GBP. I hope the prices will remain the same, but I can't be sure at this juncture. The deposit is 50%. We have other tours that combine with the HTT, notably a Sepik River 6-night trip straight after, and a 9-night dive trip just before, 3 to 12 September, and we can create bespoke visits to different parts of the country, but none of these are offered through Tour Radar. You would have to contact us directly at Best of PNG.

    • Indigo SafarisOperatorWritten January 2026

I have made the HTT 2027 tour live on this platform. The Sepik Advenrture Tour has to be booked with us directly, you should be able to find us online at Best of PNG or Indigo Safaris.

I am very interested in joining your sept 14 tour to PNG with the Goroka festival. At the moment i am a single traveller but i am hoping to convince a friend to join me. Can i sign up now and later have a friend join me. We'd just to work out the single supplement part later i guess. Can you tell me what this is too. Last question - what is the fitness level on this trip?

You need to be able to walk around for about 7 hours to get the most out of the festival. You can take breaks and sit down if necessary. The birding morning is about a three hours on your feet, some uphill walking. We would book you as a single traveller as that is how this system works, and adjust if your friend joined to share a room with you.
