Is it possible to book a private train compartment on the train Beijing to Lhasa?

It is not possible to upgrade to a different class/option for the train journey.

Can we do this tour in the reverse direction than it is listed?

Unfortunately, we don't have any other tours that connect Kathmandu and China, so unable to do it in reverse.

Could you please let me know what provisions are made by the tour company for people who may get altitude sickness.

Parts of your trip go above 2800 metres / 9200 feet where it is common for travellers to experience some adverse health effects due to the altitude. Before your trip, discuss pre-existing medical conditions with your doctor. While our group leader has basic first aid training, it is very important that you monitor your health and seek assistance accordingly.

This trip takes you from the hustle and bustle of Beijing to the serene beauty of the Tibetan Plateau! So much variety, the train ride was a highlight, getting to talk to locals and share stories and snacks was a truly incredible experience. Breathing the fresh mountain air and taking in the scenery, I will never forget it. Our Tibetan leader was the best part of our trip, wildly knowledgeable and funny to boot. Payment information
- For any tour departing before October 18th, 2026 a full payment is necessary. For tours departing after October 18th, 2026, a minimum payment of $400 is required to confirm your booking with Intrepid Travel. The final payment will be automatically charged to your credit card on the designated due date. The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 60 days prior to the departure date of your tour. TourRadar never charges you a booking fee and will charge you in the stated currency.
