Our biggest issue was not preparing for the heat in the high 30's in early April, though even locals said this was unexpected even for them. I would highly recommend this tour.Show more

  TourRadar along with Realistic Asia exceeded our expectations for a memorable vacation to Vietnam. Everything was well organized. Our accommodations were 4 star and for the most part very good. The staff of all the hotels are the most lovely people who go above and beyond to please you and make you feel welcome. Mr. Long our tour leader, not guide ( it isn’t a fully guided tour) checked in with personally in Hanoi and then every evening. That was important and we felt cared for but also had many opportunities to explore on our own. This tour did not disappoint. We wouldn’t hesitate to book it again!Show more

  I’ve always wanted to visit Vietnam, so when I found a well-priced 14-day tour on TourRadar with an itinerary I liked, I booked it right away. TourRadar arranged it through Realistic Asia, and I’m so glad they did. It was a “hybrid tour,” which I loved. Instead of traveling with the same group the entire time, my hotels and internal flights were included, and I joined different tour groups in each city. This gave me plenty of “me time” while still letting me meet lots of wonderful people along the way. I chose the three-star hotel option, but every hotel exceeded my expectations — spotless, comfortable, well-located, and staffed by incredibly friendly people. All had excellent breakfasts with both Western and Vietnamese choices. The included tours and meals were equally outstanding. The trip began in Hanoi, where I arrived early to explore on my own. I enjoyed the mix of old and new, beautiful French colonial architecture, and the lively Old Quarter where my hotel was located. Our first group stop was Ninh Binh province, Vietnam’s ancient capital. Learning about the feudal era was fascinating, but the highlight was the stunning 1.5-hour Tam Coc boat ride. The karst landscapes literally took my breath away and set the tone for the whole trip. Next we headed to the mountains of Sapa. While most of the group did an overnight trek and homestay, I couldn’t manage the physical demands, so Realistic Asia arranged a private two-day tour with Ly, a wonderful local Hmong guide. She was kind, patient, and shared so much about her culture and daily life. I learned that not all Hmong originated from Laos — many tribes, including hers, trace their roots to nearby China. We did a gentle 3-mile hike through beautiful rice terraces and mountain villages, then visited Silver Waterfall and Heaven’s Gate (unfortunately foggy that day, but the religious sites were still interesting). Ly tailored everything to my abilities, and my quiet hotel up the hill offered great views yet was just a short stroll from town. My room had a very nice view of the city and surrounding areas. From Sapa we went to Ha Long Bay for an overnight cruise on a lovely, well-maintained boat with only about 30–40 passengers. My cabin was small but very comfortable, the food was excellent, and the bay’s scenery was breathtaking. We enjoyed karaoke, morning tai chi (which was surprisingly easy and invigorating), and visits to Sung Sot Cave and Mua Cave (where we saw monkeys in a peaceful lagoon). Ti Top Island was the only part I didn’t enjoy as much due to crowds and limited accessible activities, but overall I loved Ha Long Bay. I then spent several days in charming Hoi An. I had free time to wander the Ancient Town, explore its rich history, visit the lively night market, light a candle on the river, and take a beautiful evening boat ride. I also joined an optional day trip to Hue, where the scenic drive and the historic Imperial City — despite war damage and careful restoration — were deeply moving. My hotel had a balcony with an amazing view, which I really enjoyed. The final stop was Ho Chi Minh City (still called Saigon by many locals). I immediately noticed the contrast: Hanoi feels older and more laid-back with French colonial charm, while Saigon is vibrant, modern, and always buzzing. We took a fascinating Mekong Delta tour and a half-day city tour highlighting Vietnam War sites. I also had plenty of time for shopping, great food, and exploring. My hotel here was in district one, which was in the middle of the business and visitors district. Close to everything. As a permanent souvenir, I got my first-ever tattoo — a beautiful design of Sapa’s rice terraces that brings back wonderful memories every time I see it. I extended the trip to 16 days by adding extra time at the beginning and end, which gave me a nice buffer. Realistic Asia was fantastic throughout, especially Ms. Edna. She was my dedicated contact before, during, and after the trip — always checking in, offering helpful updates, and even visiting me personally in Hanoi. Her care made the experience even better. I’ve already told her I’d love to book my next trip (Thailand and Cambodia) with Realistic Asia — and hopefully with Ms. Edna again. Thank you for an absolutely amazing journeyShow more

  I’ve always wanted to visit Vietnam. So when I found a 14 day Vietnam tour for a very reasonable price through tourradar within an itinerary that I liked, I went ahead and booked it. Tourradar booked me on a tour operated by realistic Asia, and I am so glad that they did. The tour was a “hybrid tour.” Rather than traveling with the entire group over the 14 day period, my hotels and internal Vietnam airfare were covered, and I was joined up with different tour groups in each city. I actually liked it that way, because I had “me time”, and I got a chance to meet a lot of great people on the different tours, instead of just being with the same people over the entire two weeks. I booked the “three star hotel“ option, but for “three star hotels”, all of my hotels were absolutely top-quality. They were all spotless, comfortable, in a good location, and everybody was beyond friendly and helpful. All of the hotels had a great breakfast, with a combination of eastern and western choices. All of the tours were also very good, and the meals that came as part of the tours were also top-notch. The tour started in Hanoi. I arrived early for a little bit of exploring on my own. Hanoi is a mix of the new end, the old, with lots of French architecture, and a bustling “old quarter” where my hotel was located. Lots to see, do, and of course, eat. The first stop of the tour was Ninh Binh province, which was the ancient capital of Vietnam. It was interesting learning about Vietnam during the feudal system, and the hour and a half. Tam Coc boat ride was beyond stunningly, beautiful. The views literally took my breath away, and were a great introduction, as to what I could expect over the next two weeks. From here, the tour went up to Sapa, in the mountains. Most of the group on this tour did an overnight trek with a local home stay. I was unable to physically do this trek, so instead the company sent me up with Ly, a local Hmong tribe member as my guide for two days. She was so kind and gracious, talking to me about the local area, as well as where she was from. I thought all Hmong came from Laos. They don’t. There are many different tribes, and some of the tribes, including hers, come from China, which was very close to Sapa. The first day, we did a hike of about 3 miles, seeing the rice terraces, the stunning mountain vistas, and some of the local villages, where she talked to me about how and where the locals live, and the different things that they do. It was all very interesting. The second day, we went up for a hike to Silver waterfall, which was also very beautiful. We then went up to heavens, gate overlook, which was unfortunately, fogged over the day I visited, but seeing the religious sites and different statuary were also very interesting. She made sure that all of the activities were within what I could do physically. Sapa itself had a lot of visitors, but my hotel was quiet, up the hill and away from downtown, with great views, yet only a few minute walk from downtown via a stairway from the hotel. The next stop was ha long bay. Our overnight cruise was on A very well kept boat, and our boat only had I would say maybe 30 to 40 passengers. My stateroom was small, but very well kept, and very comfortable. Again, the food on the cruise was top-notch, And the views of the bay were beyond breathtaking. There were a lot of great activities on the boat. The one night I was on the boat, we ended up doing karaoke for almost 2 hours, and everybody was just having a blast. I also got up to do tai chi in the morning, which I had never done before, and it was invigorating, yet an easy exercise to do with my physical limitations. We visited three islands. The first day, we saw Sung Sot cave, where again, the views of the cave were beyond beautiful. It was about an 800 m hike, but I was able to do it with no problems. The island had a lot of people, but once we started the hike through the cave, the crowds thinned out. The other island, Ti Top island, was the only part of this excursion that I personally did not care for. I was unable to do the hike up to the overlook, and did not feel like swimming or the other activities. I just hung out at the café until it was time to catch the boat, and again, there were a a lot of people on this island. The second day, we did Mia cave, where the people had a choice of doing a kayak with two people, or a group ride in a large boat. I did the group ride, the boat ride through the cave was very pretty, leading to a gorgeous and peaceful lagoon on the other side, and we even saw monkeys! I absolutely loved my time on Ha Long bay itself. I understand that there are also, other, lesser visited bays that are just amazingly stunning. From there, the next stop was Hoi An, where I had a couple of free days to explore the city. The first day, I just wandered around, including ancient town, which I found very interesting. Seeing the history was great. That evening, I went to the night market. Again, there were a lot of people, but there was also lots of things to do and see. I lit a candle, made a wish, and placed it into the river, and I also went for the evening boat ride, which was absolutely beautiful. The next day, I took an optional tour up to Hue. The scenery on the drive up was absolutely beautiful, and the city had so much history. The highlight of the visit to Hue had to be the ancient city. Sadly, most of it was destroyed during the Vietnam war, but the guide told us all about the history. Some of the buildings have been restored, and some of the buildings have been rebuilt to look like they had originally looked. Again, the history was fascinating. The last stop of the tour was Ho Chi Minh City, still called Saigon by many of the locals. I could definitely see the difference between Saigon and Hanoi. Hanoi is more of an older city, more laid-back, with lots of French colonial architecture, Saigon is more of a modern bustling city, where something is always going on. While I was in Saigon, there were two activities. One was a tour up to the Mekong, Delta, the Delta itself was fascinating, a bustling waterway with lots of activity, and we got to see how the locals live. The last activity of the trip was a half day city tour. The city tour was interesting, covering sites around town that were part of the Vietnam war. I also had plenty of time when I was in the city, to explore, go shopping, and of course, more of that great food. I even brought home a permanent souvenir. I told myself that I would never get a tattoo. But when I was wandering around town, I saw a tattoo that depicted the rice terraces up in Sapa. It brought back such wonderful memories of being up there, I now have a permanent reminder of this amazing trip. The tour was 14 days altogether, I made it 16, adding an extra day to the beginning and the end of the trip. I thought that was a wise thing to do, because it gave me a little bit of a buffer between all of the activities. Realistic, Asia, and Ms. Edna in particular, were absolutely fantastic! I cannot say enough about Ms. Edna. She was my contact from before the trip started, throughout the entire trip. She would continuously touch base with me, asking how I was doing, how I was enjoying the trip, giving me a heads up on upcoming activities, just continuously being my contact on the trip. We stayed in contact right up until I got home, making sure that everything was fine. She even came out to visit me at my hotel in Hanoi, so she could personally say hello and introduce herself. I thought that was a very nice touch. I have already told her that my next trip, I would love to do Thailand and Cambodia, and I would be more than happy to book this trip through realistic, Asia, and possibly with Ms. Edna personally if possible.
