Itinerary
- Day 1
Paro to Thimphu
You'll arrive in Paro and clear immigration before meeting your guide and driver. The drive to Thimphu includes a stop at the historic Tachog Lhakhang, where you can see the iconic chain suspension bridge. Once in Thimphu, you'll visit the Memorial Chorten, Buddha Point, Changangkha Lhakhang, and the Simply Bhutan museum. Keep in mind that your exact schedule depends on when your flight lands, so some sites might be skipped if you arrive later in the day.

- Day 2
Thimphu
After breakfast, you'll spend the day exploring Thimphu's cultural side. The National Library comes first, where you can see Buddhist literature and the world's largest book. From there, head to Zorig Chusum to watch traditional Bhutanese arts and crafts being made. Later, you'll check out Zilikha Nunnery and the Takin Preserve. If there's time, swing by Sangaygang Viewpoint for views of the valley, and if the day allows, take on the Wangditse Hike in the late afternoon.

- Day 3
Thimphu
Start early with breakfast, then drive about 45 minutes north of Thimphu. You can pick between two hikes: Tango Monastery takes roughly 1.5 hours, or go for the easier Cheri Monastery route, which takes around 45 minutes. Both hikes take you through forest and lead to spiritual sites. Pack a picnic lunch to eat by the riverside at the base of the trails. Head back to your hotel to rest after, and if evening light holds up, visit Tashichho Dzong before dark.

Thimphu to Punakha
After breakfast, drive to Punakha, which is about 72 kilometers from Thimphu. The road climbs to Dochu La Pass at 3,050 meters (10,007 feet), where you'll see Himalayan peaks, prayer flags, and 108 chortens. Stop at Chimi Lhakhang, a temple from 1499 with its own unique history. Have lunch, then see Punakha Dzong with its grand architecture. Walk the 180-meter suspension bridge across the Po Chhu River to wrap up the day.

- Day 5
Punakha to Paro
In the morning, walk about 30 minutes to reach Khamsum Yulley Namgyel Chorten, a three-story structure on a hillside across the Mo Chhu. Head back and enjoy lunch by the riverside. Then drive to Paro and visit Kyichu Lhakhang, a 7th-century temple, followed by the Ta Dzong Museum and Rinpung Dzong. You'll see traditional Bhutanese architecture and ancient frescoes at the dzong before the day ends.

- Day 6
Paro
Make your way to the base of Taktsang Monastery and decide if you want to ride a pony or hike. The uphill trek takes about 1.5 hours to reach Taktsang Cafeteria, where you can see the monastery hanging 900 meters above the Paro Valley. From there, another hour gets you to a lookout point right next to the monastery itself. Lunch happens at the cafeteria. Spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing at your hotel or wandering around Paro town if you have energy left.
