  The Romanian portion of the tour was very good, except the fact we did not get to go into Peles Castle as it was closed on the day we were there. Daniel was an excellent driver and a very knowledgeable tour guide. He added so much to our trip and we feel like we really came away with a great knowledge of Romania & Transylvania. The Bulgarian portion of the trip seems like it was not well planed out in advance as there was not a Bulgarian driver/guide for us. So this portion of the trip was not as culturally rich as the Romanian portion. There was no local guide to meet us in Ruse and no guide at the Ivanovo Rock Churches. The local guide in Veliko-Taverno was very kind but extremely hard to understand. The local guides in Plovdiv & Sophia for walking tours were very good. There was no local guide at the Rila Monestery. For Bulgaria, we had a very skillful and kind Romanian driver, Alex. It was his first trip ever into Bulgaria & he did not speak the language or have any knowledge of the country & its history. But he was very personable and we enjoyed his company on the many hours of driving through the mountains and the countryside and at meals. He was very nice to us and we appreciated his efforts immensely.Show more

  What a great tour. There was so much to see. It was go, go, go from start to finish. The history in these countries...
  What a great tour. There was so much to see. It was go, go, go from start to finish. The history in these countries is mind blowing. It felt like we saw everything worth seeing. Our Guide Florin was a sweetheart who looked after us so well although we're still questioning his dad jokes, ha ha. The hotels were nice, some charming and buffet breakfasts a girl could get quite used to. Go a couple of days ahead to spend more time in Budapest, there's so much to see there and add an extra day or two to see more of Istanbul. The rest of our tour had cancelled due to the Iran war so it was just my friend and myself and our guide. We took an SUV around instead of a bus. It was quite comfortable. We missed a couple of things because we got in late some afternoons, especially Istanbul as the border control took over 3 hrs. Fabulous tour, well worth the money.Show more

  It turned out that my tour was a solo one with just myself and a tour guide. Beltana was brilliant in showing me around Sofia . We spent 4 hours seeing the sights on foot. She also pointed out places of interest outside of Sofia. Arina shared her love of history and was accommodating to alter some parts of the trip like seeing inside a Trecian tomb that wasn't reconstructed, with no line up. I learnt so much about ancient culture and modern Bulgaria. Florin in Romania was another knowledgeable guide who conveyed the history of Romania with modern day developments. He predicted I would fall in love with the country and I did. Accommadation was good andfood great I certainly would recommend using Carpathian Travel .Show more
