- ARAlexandru· December 31st, 2025Background: As a reference, this was my third tour booked via TourRadar. The first was in Thailand, operated by TruTravels; the second was in Peru, operated by TreXperience. My experience with G Adventures was terrible, and I do not recommend it at all. First of all, it started with the poorest and least empathetic customer support I have ever experienced. I had a problem with my flight and joined the group one day later. I contacted customer support and tried to find a middle ground. In the beginning, they gave me wrong information about the flight schedule from Bangkok to Cambodia. First, they told me the flight would be to Siem Reap, then they said it would be to Phnom Penh, with totally different hours. When I asked what we could do, they responded only with a citation from the terms and conditions, without even trying to help. I managed this by myself with a direct flight from BKK to Siem Reap, at an additional cost of €220. Even though the itinerary mentioned a flight from Bangkok to Siem Reap, due to border problems between Thailand and Cambodia, they chose to book the whole group on a flight from Bangkok to Phnom Penh and then take a 6-hour bus ride from Phnom Penh. This is one of the least sustainable and ecological choices possible. They heavily promote optional activities, most of which are overpriced. The hotel in Siem Reap was okay (Garden Village Hotel): entry-level, clean, with a pool, but very limited facilities. Breakfast was very poor. On the first night, we had an optional activity: a tourist-centered dinner with local food and shows, which cost USD 25. The same activity costs around USD 20 on GetYourGuide, and I even saw it for USD 19 on the street. The Angkor Wat tour was good. The bus from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh stopped for lunch at a restaurant with overpriced food, catering only to tourists. In Phnom Penh, our tour guide recommended only overpriced restaurants. For comparison, you can eat a normal meal for around USD 5, but we never ate anywhere for under USD 10. We spent Christmas night there, and our guide booked a rooftop bar that was empty, again far more expensive than normal places. For comparison, two years ago with TruTravels in Thailand, we received a surprise Christmas dinner and small symbolic gifts, all included—even though it was not mentioned anywhere. The optional trip here was the Killing Fields and the prison. The guide who led this tour was very well prepared, and both the experience and the price were worth it. The hotel in Phnom Penh had cockroaches, and breakfast was again very disappointing, consisting of only eggs and three types of fruit. The next destination was Koh Rong, which was one of the better parts of the tour. The hostel was also good. The only thing I asked our guide was whether he could organize a snorkeling trip, but he was very rigid and said it was not possible. He organized a bioluminescent plankton trip instead, but he did not join us. This was disappointing because too much light came from the land, and you could barely see anything. Another point: G Adventures does not pay for toll roads, so the bus you take is very slow and goes through the countryside. A plus point for the tour guide: he took us to the speedway. Overall, this tour felt like a waste of money. Be prepared to be treated like an ATM by your tour guide—he mentioned many times that we needed to have money with us and pay for this and that. One more thing: tips were not optional. The tour guide collected them as a mandatory “courtesy.” The amount was not high, but I would prefer this to be clearly mentioned in advance or included. With a bit of research, this trip can be easily done independently, and the experience would not be much different from traveling with the group. The tour lacks any group-engaging activities. Overall, the money you pay is mainly for bus rides, ferry trips, possibly a flight, and accommodation. The guide was almost nonexistent, as his main activity was posting pre-made messages in the group chat.Show more
