Itinerary
- Day 1
San Jose
You'll land at San Jose International Airport and head to your hotel on your own after getting through customs. This gives you time to settle in and get oriented at your own pace.
- Day 2
San Jose to Tortuguero
Starting early, you'll drive through Braulio Carrillo National Park with a breakfast stop along the way, then switch to a boat that winds through canals and rivers toward Tortuguero. After lunch at the eco-lodge, you can take a boat tour through the canals and walk around the village before heading to the beach. By evening you're back at the lodge relaxing with rainforest and wildlife all around.

- Day 3
Tortuguero
You'll spend three hours on a boat excursion through Tortuguero National Park looking for monkeys, crocodiles, sloths and birds (there are over 350 species here). After returning to the lodge, the rest of the day is yours to relax by the pool, walk the grounds, or just take in the rainforest setting.

Tortuguero to Arenal
An early morning boat takes you to Guapiles where you'll stop for lunch at a local spot, then continue driving toward the Arenal region. Once you arrive at your hotel, the afternoon and evening are open for you to rest up or wander around and explore on your own.

- Termas de Tabacon - Relax in thermal pools and flowing rivers at one of Costa Rica's most famous hot spring resorts at the base of Arenal Volcano, with naturally heated mineral waters varying in temperature, surrounded by tropical forest and waterfalls. - Ecotermales Hot Springs - Unwind in naturally heated thermal pools fed by Arenal Volcano's geothermal energy in a peaceful rainforest setting, with pools of varying temperatures and a cold-water waterfall for contrast.
Landmarks Arenal Volcano - Day 5
Arenal
After breakfast, a guide leads you through Arenal Volcano National Park explaining the volcanic history and walking you through landscapes shaped by past lava flows. You'll keep an eye out for sloths, howler monkeys and anteaters along the way. Back at the hotel by afternoon, you can either chill out or head out to explore more if you'd like.

Arenal to Monteverde
You'll eat early, then head to Lake Arenal for a scenic boat crossing before driving up into the Monteverde cloud forest region (around 1,200 meters/3,937 feet elevation where it's noticeably cooler). The misty forests and coffee plantations are here to explore, and the rest of the day is yours to check things out at whatever pace feels right.

Monteverde
A hike through Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve lets you see this unique ecosystem firsthand with its thick mist and dense vegetation. The reserve has been protecting this area since 1972 and holds incredible biodiversity. After you're done hiking, the rest of your day is free to walk around Monteverde and do whatever interests you.

Monteverde to Tamarindo
You'll travel to the Pacific coast and the beach town of Tamarindo in Guanacaste province. After checking into your hotel, you've got free time to walk the lively streets, jump in the ocean, or hang out at the hotel with all its facilities available.

Tamarindo
Three full days to spend in Tamarindo as you like. The beach sits in a wide bay with Playa Grande to the north and Playa Langosta to the south, plus the largest mangrove estuary in Central America nearby. You can swim in the warm water, relax on the sand, explore the town's shops and restaurants, or just pick a spot and settle in.

Tamarindo to San Jose
After breakfast you'll check out and head back to San Jose, checking in at your hotel when you arrive. The rest of the day is open for you to walk around the capital, pop into museums, or find a café that looks good.
