Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Llogara National Park

You'll drive out to Llogara National Park and start hiking through thick pine forest that gradually opens into rockier terrain. The trail takes you past a small pastoral settlement as it climbs toward Qafa e Thellë, where you get those sweeping coastal views across to Italy on clear days. After spending time at the viewpoint, you'll head back down the same route to the parking area and check into your hotel within the park.

    Included Activities

    • Hike through Llogara National Park to Qafa e Thellë with coastal views

    Qafa e Thellë
    Strait of Otranto
  2. Day 2

    Llogara National Park to Dhërmi

Today's a big one physically. You're going for the summit of Qorre peak at 2,018 meters, the second highest in the Ceraunian Mountains. The climb is steep but gets you to views where wild mountains drop straight down to beaches below. You can see Mount Çikë falling over 2,000 meters in less than 5 kilometers. After the summit, you'll come back down through increasing forest coverage, then drive to Dhërmi, a coastal village in the mountains overlooking the Ionian Sea. You'll stay among its traditional stone houses for the night.

  3. Day 3

    Dhërmi to Qeparo

After breakfast you'll head to the Ngjipe trailhead and walk down a well-kept path to the beach with stops at scenic viewpoints along the way. The Ngjipe canyon carved by water over 2 kilometers and 100 meters deep creates a unique landscape. You'll have time to swim and relax in the clear water before climbing back to the parking area. From there, you continue your drive south toward Qeparo, passing Porto Palermo bay where you can see Cold War military ruins and Ali Pasha fortress remnants on a peninsula. You'll settle in Qeparo for the night.

  4. Day 4

    Qeparo to Saranda

From Qeparo you'll drive to the Kakome beach trailhead for an easier, gentler hike with nice views of both Kakome and Krorëz beaches. The trail isn't steep, making it a good morning walk. At Krorëz there are restaurants and bars right at the beach if you want to spend time by the water before heading back the same way in the afternoon. Later you'll drive south to Saranda, Albania's southernmost city just a few kilometers from Corfu. The rest of the evening is yours to wander around this vibrant coastal town.

  5. Day 5

    Saranda to Gjirokastra

You'll drive from Saranda to Labovë e Kryqit, a village with one of the Balkans' important Byzantine churches. The church held a relic believed to be from the True Cross, and the silver cross in the village is remarkable even by Byzantine standards. From there, you'll follow a clear trail through Libohova's upper areas, crossing meadows and small forests as it zigzags upward toward a mountain saddle. Along the ridge you'll come across remnants of Cold War installations, old tunnels and abandoned bunkers still visible. After descending back to the village, you'll drive to Gjirokastra, a well-preserved Ottoman trading town where you'll stay the night.

You'll check out the fortress and the well-maintained museum houses that tell the town's history.
