Beijing
Your morning starts with a guided tour through Tiananmen Square and the Imperial Palace, where you'll walk through the official halls and the private quarters where emperors lived. After lunch, head to the Temple of Heaven to see the iconic blue-roofed Hall of Harvest Offerings. In the evening, you have the option to grab Peking duck at Bianyifang restaurant.

Beijing
This morning takes you to the Summer Palace along Kunming Lake, where you'll check out the imperial reception halls and walk the famous 700-meter decorated lakeside pathway. By afternoon, travel to the Great Wall at the Mutianyu section and take a cable car up, then walk along the wall itself. Dinner can be hotpot at Haidilao Hotpot Restaurant if you'd like.

Beijing to Xian
Head to Beijing railroad station to board a modern express train heading to Xian, one of China's former capitals. Once you arrive, spend time exploring the Ming Dynasty city wall that stretches over 10 kilometers around the city center. You can walk or bike along it depending on how much energy you have.

Xian
Start your day at the Terracotta Army in Lintong County, walking through three open pits filled with 2,200-year-old clay warriors. From there, see the bronze chariots hall, then move on to the Great Wild Goose Pagoda from the Tang Dynasty. Spend time in the Great Mosque and old town area. If you're interested, try traditional jiaozi at Defachang restaurant.

Xian to Shanghai
Take an express train from Xian to Shanghai, transitioning from a historical city to a hyper-modern metropolis. Once you settle in, head to the Bund waterfront promenade in the evening to see how colonial buildings sit alongside modern towers. Later, walk through Nanjing Street, the city's most famous shopping area.

Shanghai
Explore the contrasts within Shanghai by visiting the renovated old town with its shops and restaurants, then move on to Yu Garden, which shows beautiful examples of traditional horticultural art with rocks, streams, ponds and plants. You can also stroll through an unrestored old town area if interested. The City Planning Museum gives you a look at Shanghai's development, past and future. End your day with a view from Shanghai Tower's observation deck. Dim sum at Ding Tai Fung is an option for dinner.
