Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Bucharest to Brasov

    Your guide picks you up at Bucharest airport, then after a short break you'll head to Sinaia where the royal family used to retreat. Lunch overlooks Peles Castle and its gardens before you tour the grounds. From there it's on to Bran Castle to learn about the Dracula connection and try some local cheese. By evening you'll reach Brasov for a city tour hitting the Black Church and Council Hall, then settle into your hotel.

  2. Day 2

    Brasov to Sibiu

    After breakfast you'll travel to Prejmer to see the UNESCO Fortified Church, one of Transylvania's best kept examples. Next stop is medieval Sighisoara where you'll walk through the Venetian House, climb 175 stairs via the Covered Staircase to reach the Church on the Hill, and visit Dracula's birthplace. Lunch happens at Restaurant Dracula. Later you'll check out the Biertan Fortified Church before heading to Sibiu for an evening tour covering the Evangelical Church, bridges, towers, and museums.

  3. Day 3

    Sibiu

    This day focuses on villages near Sibiu at the foot of the Cindrel Mountains. You'll start in Cisnadie to see a beautiful fortified church, then visit the medieval fortress in Cisnadioara. Back in Sibiu you'll have a traditional lunch at Astra Village Museum before driving through shepherd villages like Rasinari, Poplaca, and Orlat. The afternoon takes you to Sibiel for its unique glass-painted icon museum. You'll return to Sibiu for the evening.

  4. Day 4

    Sibiu to Cluj-Napoca

    After breakfast you'll travel to Alba Iulia, where Romania's unification was signed in 1918. You'll explore the old citadel with its Orthodox and Roman-Catholic cathedrals plus monuments. Next comes Turda where you can tour the salt mine, now open to visitors with swimming and an underground Ferris wheel as options. In the afternoon Cluj-Napoca gets your attention for a tour covering Roman ruins, the old monastery, St. Michael's Church, and various palaces and cathedrals.

    Cluj-Napoca to Viseu de Sus

    After breakfast you'll drive toward Maramures, first stopping in Surdesti to see a traditional wooden church. Lunch is in Sighetu Marmatiei with an optional visit to the Museum of Communism. The afternoon takes you to Sapanta for the famous 'merry cemetery' with its colorful graves and rhyming epitaphs, plus the wooden sculpture workshop. You'll also see UNESCO wooden monasteries at Barsana and Rozavlea while spotting locals in traditional dress with horse-drawn wagons. By evening you'll arrive in Viseu de Sus.

    Viseu de Sus to Gura Humorului

    After breakfast you'll head to catch a scenic sightseeing train, formerly used to haul forest wood, through northern Romania's landscapes. The route passes through Prislop Pass, one of the country's highest points, with views of traditional houses along the way. You'll stop in Carlibaba, considered Romania's most beautiful village, then visit the Painted Eggs Museum in Vama for an egg-painting workshop. Later comes Moldovita Monastery, a UNESCO site where monks have created murals since the 16th century. You'll reach Gura Humorului by evening.

    Gura Humorului to Iasi

    After breakfast you'll visit Sucevita Monastery, stop in Marginea for a ceramics workshop, then see Voronet Monastery with its distinctive blue frescoes. Lunch is in Gura Humorului before heading to Suceava, Moldavia's former capital, to explore the medieval fortress and try a traditional embroidery workshop. Next is Agapia Monastery, Romania's largest with over 500 nuns, featuring interior paintings by Nicolae Grigorescu. You'll end the day in Iasi exploring the city center's churches and cultural sites.

    Iasi to Danube Delta

    You'll head early toward the Danube Delta. First stop is Niculitel to see the Paleo-Christian Basilica, built around 370 AD. Then comes Saon Monastery, founded in 1846 by monks from another monastery during Ottoman times. By afternoon you'll reach Tulcea and begin exploring the UNESCO Danube Delta. After dinner you'll settle into accommodation in the delta for the night.

    Danube Delta

    After breakfast you'll explore Europe's largest reed landscape and UNESCO site. The Danube Delta, Europe's second largest river delta after the Volga, is also the continent's best preserved. You'll walk through Paradise spotting about 98 percent of Europe's aquatic creatures and 327 bird species. Travel mainly by water through channels and waterways watching for large predatory fish and taking in the natural scenery.

  10. Day 10

    Danube Delta to Bucharest

    After an early breakfast you'll depart for Bucharest and grab lunch at a traditional restaurant in the old city center. Before heading to the airport you'll take a comprehensive city tour hitting landmarks like the Press House, Kisselef Boulevard, the Arch of Triumph, Victoriei Square and Street, Revolution Square, Cotroceni Palace, churches, and historic streets. Your guide will drop you at Otopeni Airport in the afternoon.
